Snow Chain Question
Headed to Almont, CO over Thanksgiving. Going just to get away for a week and do some off tossing in the Rubi. Never been to CO this time of year. Should I bring a set of snow chains or are the roads/weather usually ok to not have them till later?

Not a chain guy but when I bought my 2012 JK the dealer told me specifically not to use chains and its on a disclaimer they gave me.

There are plenty of places in northern Arizona when chains and 4wd are required to travel on some highways during the winter. Colorado has to be even more snow intensive.

It can't hurt to have them and they can even be used in mud when necessary. Getting underneath a 4wd and digging it out the snow in freezing weather is no fun.

ive been in places where I did need chains, never on the road in my jeep, and if you've got a rubi you'll be fine on roads, just get good tires and drive cautiously. I bring mine with me on EVERY off road excursion. but most would say I over pack.

Not quite off-topic

I'm looking at a set of RUD Grip 4x4 chains. Any opinions?

We are up here and only snow is in upper elevations. Since we were wheeling alone, we turned around 2x just to be cautious.

I put spacers on my JK specifically so I could run chains with the stock tires. Chains aren't just to help you get going ... they also help you stop. Think about it - everybody's got 4 wheel braking. It's not the deep stuff you're worried about. When you are driving through mountain passes on a sheet of ice with sheer dropoffs to the side where your momentum is taking you ... I got two words - v bar.
