Another DNR survey looking for your input
ORV Trails
We at the DNR hope you had an safe and fun summer enjoying the many miles of trails and scramble areas open to ORVs and ATVs. As always, you can access information about ORV and ATV riding in Michigan at the DNR website at
As you may know, the DNR is working with Michigan State University to assess current levels of ORV ownership and use, as well as interest in an ORV Training Center in the state. We invite you to participate in a short survey about these issues. The questions should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Your opinions are important to us so please click the link below and take the survey today.
Thank you in advance for your participation!

I started to take that survey and Man oh Man what a joke. I couldnt even finish it, "what kinds of land do you ORV on?" Is ORV a noun or a verb to them. They need to get their crap together. Surveys like that make me remember why I am otw out of this state as soon as possible.

Here is an idea, send some DNR officials out to a place like Colorado and base any ORV system on their model. Now I realize there are differences between the two states but at least try to have someone who has a remote idea of what they are talking about handle the issue.

The fact that they are even asking our opinion is encouraging, because that did not happen in the past other than a once every 10 year survey they mailed out.

If you haven't heard, there's a new sheriff in town - the ORV program has been moved from the Forest side of the DNR to the Parks and Rec side. They appear to be much more proactive in trying to make the users happy, and based on my recent interactions with the trail technicians and their bosses I am hopeful that things will continue to improve over the next few years.

So bad grammar and all, grin and bear it - not too often a government agency asks what you think and actually seems to have an interest in improving the outcome.

I took the survey...We are going to MI this weekend. For those of us in Northern IN MI is our playground...the lakes the fishing the wheeling...and some of the best B&Bs I have ever found all within a couple hour drive from my home.

I was glad to see we had a place to "write in our thoughts" and they also asked what Zip Code we lived...seemed that they were trying.....maybe the money they can make with permits, trail use, gas, food, etc. can help out some of the people needing work jobs and income?

Thanks for posting, Paul. I took the survey and like you, I'm glad to see Michigan at least trying to consider the idea of embracing off-road enthusiasts or at least attempt to actively explore the concept of recognizing off-road enthusiasts as actual income-producing recreation in the State. I've always felt if we had state-sanctioned off-road parks in addition to the few private ones in the way it seems some other states have done, I think we could truly unleash a Pure Michigan experience bringing off-road enthusiasts from surrounding states not to mention ourselves ;-).

Took the survey, hope they make courses reasonably available both in terms of cost & time involved.
