Project Black Eagle: Jeep Journal
Finally starting to do a little work to my 2010 Wrangler Unlimited. I bought it back in March and until now my mod's were limited to a set of Bosch wiper blades, I know, I'm so bad  , lol anyway.
Nothing crazy, no big lifts, or full lockers, or anything crazy like that. But I wanted to start a project thread so I could kinda keep track of everything along the way and share it with you all without making nine zillion different posts. There will be a lot of function mods, I will also be doing a few product reviews for my automotive blog and sharing them in here as well. I do plan on a lift whenever these tires run out but just a small one simply for tire clearance purposes only. I don't daily drive it and don't have to drive it everyday but I do take on trips, vacations, etc and don't want to eliminate the possibility of dd'ing her if I need to. So this is more of a journal thread than a project thread I guess.
One more thing before I get started, I wanted to explain the name. The first Jeep I looked at was one of the two door Golden Eagle models they put out a couple of years ago, I almost bought it but then ended up getting something else. Well when I traded for this Jeep that Golden Eagle had been traded back in but all the decals were taken off and they painted the wheels which was a turn off to me, plus I wanted/needed a four door. Anyway fast forward to today when i was doing my first mod which you will see in a bit my buddy came in my store and was like what are you putting on it a golden eagle? So that stuck in my head and whenever I was thinking of a name for the project that is how I came up with Black Eagle. Might have some sort of cool hood decal made up later on we will see.
Anywho here are a few pictures of the jeep when I took her to the woods finally for the first time this weekend. Video to come later.
I really like the black on black look so I wanted to put the flat black hood piece on. Forget which model it comes factory on? Mountain edition or something? I can't remember. Anyway very simple install, pretty much idiot proof. Pop the hood bumpers out, remove the handle piece and slap her on.
Cleaned the hood good first with some prep all wax and grease remover.
Couple of afters.
Really happy with it, may add more flat black work later on.
Here is a video I made over the weekend, nothing too great, little shakey camera work by the wife, I need a go-pro! Just threw some random music that was next in line on my playlist on it when I saw how shakey it was. Didn't want to make a thread for it but I figured I'd share it in here!

Every jeep has a story right? I am telling mine with decals. I've always been a fan of the old vintage state decals and people who put them on there campers or motor homes of the states and places they have been too. Well I am going to do the same with my Jeep. Not gonna put them on the outside or anything but inside of the hardtop is going to be for state stickers, the door will be for decals from cool places I have been in the Jeep. Still gotta get a Tennessee and South Carolina decal but here is a start.
I plan on taking her across country on an "Out West" trip in a few years so she should really rack up some stickers then:2thumbsup:
More to come later! Doing a headlight bulb swap today!:punk:
Made a small modification today. I've had these cup holder inserts forever, just now getting around to putting them in. They are made of some sort of stone that absorbs the moisture so you don't have wet and sticky cup holders. Less than ten bucks in the both its a great cheap mod!
Don't mind the dirt, I need to clean this nasty thing!
Added to my decal collection over the weekend. Took the Jeep to Daytona Beach, Florida to the Turkey Rod Run.
Here is a couple of cool pictures of it looking at the beach, turning onto A1A, and in front of the Speedway.
For those interested in the whole trip check out my blog by CLICKING HERE
There are also tons of old car pictures in there from The Turkey Rod Run!
All this storage room in the back makes me realize I should have sold my soft top six months earlier!! :punk:
Finally got around to doing a little write up on my new headlights. I went with the Phillips X-treme power. They are a little better but not worth the retail price IMO. Check out my review on my blog for before and after photos and more thoughts on them.
Here is the after shot.
Here is the blog entry:

This was Phase 1 of my light mods, Phase 2 will be coming a day or so after Christmas when I unwrap my new Mopar light bar and lights:thumb:
Got three new Rugged Ridge lights for Christmas for the ole' girl. Got a Mopar bar to go on the front to mount them on. Hopefully I'll get them all put in Wednesday or Thursday, may even try and put the bar on tomorrow. More pics to come!
New lights are in!!!
Did a little write up on the install on my blog, CLICK HERE to check it out!
Made a few upgrades recently.
Added a set of Rugged Ridge floor mats, man these things are awesome. I only got the fronts but the back and rear mat are defiantly on my shopping list soon!
CLICK HERE to see my review in my blog about them.
Also picked up some grab handles also by Rugged Ridge.
CLICK HERE for my review about them.
I picked both of these up on a trip to Chattanooga, TN. You can read about the whole trip HERE. Here is a few highlights though.
Stopped on the way over along the Ocoee for a few pictures.
Also stopped by Tom's 4x4 in Chattanooga. Cool store, nice peeps. That's where I picked up my mats and grab handles.
From there we headed to Knoxville, to Pigeon Forge, and back home across the smokies.
Put almost four hundred miles on her, she did great!
Couple of you have asked where I get the vintage decals at. This is the best seller I've found on ebay.
decal from atlantatony2009 | eBay
Hopefully that link works if it doesn't search for atlantatony2009
You gotta be careful that you don't get the "water dipped" or original style decals. Being 50+ years old they usually suck. You wanna go with the reproductions.
Tossed some new pads and rotors on her front and back yesterday. Went with the Akebono pads, had real good luck with them in the past. Just standard Carquest brand rotors.
Also had to put my spare tire into use, my right front has a knot in it and with going to Florida this weekend I was afraid to chance it at interstate speeds. I've picked up a funny vibration though, like maybe the spare wasn't balanced good? I just dropped it off at the tire shop to have them balanced so hopefully that fixes it. She will be getting new tires soon anyway when tax money comes in and hopefully a small lift :D
Finally SNOW!!!! After having the Jeep for almost a year! Not alot but at least I got to play in it. Gotta say I'm very impressed with how it did. I played around in two wheel drive around the house and it went surprisingly good in two wheel drive. The traction control really surprised me how well it worked. It cut just enough power for it to roll right on up the hill. That worked a couple of times until I got stuck and slid back down, but that was fun too:p
Added a set of ventvisors to the ole' girl yesterday. I love the function, but I wasn't sold on the look until I saw them on another black JK. I think it makes the windows look darker than they really are which I like, just getting too old for dark windows though. I plan on eventually getting my front windows tinted to the legal % or maybe five or so darker than legal so I think once I do that it will compliment this look nicely.
Haven't had many updates as of late, really hadn't had much money to spend on it. But I did pick up a set of Sahara wheels from my buddy yesterday. Pretty decent tires too which I was getting to be in need of. It's a subtle upgrade but I think they do look better. I really thought about running a small spacer just to push them out a bit but I decided against it for now.
Maybe give'm a coat of plastie-dip if your into the all black. Looks good either way. And have you thought about de-badging?
