Relocating To Albuqierque in January

I'm relocating to Albuquerque in January, and am looking for someone (or a few someone) to take me out and help guide me through Rio Puerco once I get out there. I've done the large dune right at the end of Southern, but haven't done any of the other obstacles.

As a side question, are locker required/recommended for that area? Or are there ways past the obstacles that require them and still have a good time?

I live here in Albuquerque, but just got my jeep. Went to the dunes at the end of Southern last weekend. I would like tag along too and explore the Rio Puerco.

I've done the dunes at the end of Southern, but I wouldn't dream of trying to do Rio Puerco myself. Or pretty much any trail for that matter.

Rio Puerco

I would like to go with someone familiar. When up on the sand dunes, i looked for a way down. Only saw one way and not sure if it is big enough for jeeps or just for bikes. Be great to have someone lead us. Just got my jeep in september.

I can show you guys the areas I know, that is if you are still looking,, you don't need lockers in most the areas... also you can bypass most the hard stuff .. also check out nm off road ... postings of runs are often posted.

Just became a Jeeper. I've been all around the end of southern in my Tundra but haven't ventured past the ridge too far since always solo. I want to explore in the jeep but need to hit the 500mi mark first. Almost to 300 :)

I was able to get the jeep without trade. I'm giving it to my sister who's in bad need of a good vehicle. It's a 2000 first gen tundra unlimited trd offroad 4x4 with the 4.7L. My nephews were sad that I said I traded her. Only 102,000 mi of great memories. Now she will have a great home and I can still visit. My sis has been thru hell and hit rock bottom. She snapped and has been kicking tail. She is my hero.

I sure cant wait to join you guys. I have about another month before I pick up my new old jeep. It's a 89 with a 4 banger. I didn't think I would like it very much till I took it off road. its by no means my first Jeep. I've had 4 before. But this is my first 4 cylinder. I think it'll be just fine.

wat3rdog 12-27-2012 10:13 PM

Any pics? Looks like we are going to try to meet up once a month at twin peaks for beer and eats. We currently will be meeting there Jan 9th on a Wed. @ 5:30 pm. I'm sure its too soon but a good group so far.
I live in NW ABQ near Intel.

bchambers1956 12-27-2012 10:21 PM

No pics yet, but I can snag one tomorrow. I drove it the other day to get parts at work and had a little time to kill. ( our parts truck was out of town and I was in a hurry). I figured what the hell and jumped off in some open space on the way back. I had already talked person about buying it and taking it off road just re inserted the bug . You know how it is. I live SW by the way.

wat3rdog 12-27-2012 10:25 PM

Nice. Sounds like we will all have to plan a puerco day trip.

bchambers1956 12-29-2012 08:33 AM

89 yj. Where is the cold air coming from underneath the dash under my steering column. is there an outside vent open or something?

wat3rdog 12-29-2012 10:14 AM

Sounds like it. When you get it here we will need to take a look.

bchambers1956 12-29-2012 10:29 AM

I have it for the day. I'm going to take it off road a little bit. today is going to be the day that decides whether not I'm buying this. I think I'm going to the open space off of Bobby foster near the Albuquerque Dragway...... If Anybody is interested

Nice

wat3rdog 01-14-2013 11:58 PM

When do you plan to be this way(op)?

JKJeepit 01-16-2013 10:02 PM

here's a few maps of the area.
Rio Puerco Clockwise - Offroading trip | EveryTrail
this route into the Rio Puerco is not to common
we usually go in the way we came out.
there is also a few ways in further North.
to the OP, you don't need lockers on everything. it is good if you know how to use the breaks to gain some traction on some area.. there is a bypass to most obstetrical's.

sorry I don't have pictures attached to all of these.
EveryTrail | EveryTrail

mild to wild.... there's a lot out there.
