Jeep Noises from Clutch
 
My clutch recently decided to stop working and my transmission will only go into gear occasionally. I believe this is signs of pilot bearing wear but am not sure...any suggestions?

I would think the throw out bearing or master cylinder would go first. The pilot bearing only centers the transmission input shaft so I'm not sure how that would keep things from engaging.

Just watched the video, sounds like a throwout bearing. I am by no means a clutch expert though. A pilot bearing or bushing sits in the middle of the flywheel and centers the tranission input shaft, its also a solid piece of metal. The throw out or release bearing actually has ball bearings and presses down onto the pressure plate to release the clutch disc. The sound in the video sounds like bad ball bearings which would lead me to think throw out. Fyi, you can throw a manual into gear with careful timing and the right rpms, just be careful.

It does sound like the throw out bearing. I had a 84 camaro that had the same sound, was the throw out bearing. It was under warranty so I couldn't tell you how difficult it is to replace.....good luck

its the trowout bearing just had to replace mine due to the same issue. When you replace it you may as well replace it all though.

It ended up being the pilot bearing. Once I painfully got the transmission undocked from the engine, the bearing was seized. After many different attempts to get the pilot out (grease, paper towels, bread, bolts, etc), I ending up cutting the pilot bearing out with a Dremel. I should have taken pictures before. The throw out bearing spun freely and looked fine but I replaced it anyway just to avoid another pain in the ass. Shitty part is....I replaced all this not even 5000 miles ago. Must say not a fan of luk clutch parts anymore...
