SoCal Spring feeler

This may be premature as it's 5 months out, but....

What are thoughts runs during the first half of April?? I had a couple trail combos in mind that I'd like to hit after I get my new tires, lift, and sliders installed (hopefully in March)...

I was thinking of:

Rattlesnake Canyon to Heartbreak Ridge
-or-
Gold Mountain to John Bull
-or-
Dishpan to Holcomb Creek

Would anyone be interested in these runs during this time frame?
What run is preferred?

Kind of far away I know, but this is the first open time I don't already have something planned. I don't want to do the second half of the month because I know some people already have some major runs planned.

Also is someone wants to take the lead on these runs I'm all for it ... it will be a first time on any of these trails for me.

JoeBot13 11-27-2012 07:48 PM

Given the time of year I'm partial to the Rattlesnake/Heartbreak trails ...

Xjman1 11-27-2012 08:14 PM

Hmmm.... I am hoping to be in Moab around that time, but will keep an eye on this thread.

JoeBot13 11-27-2012 08:38 PM

Yeah there are a bunch of folks that have big stuff planned for this time frame ... I saw a Parker, AZ ... there is a Mojave Road trip ... you name it ...

I'm trying to start putting check marks besides my to-do trails list ... my time in SoCal is finite ... so if Moab doesn't work out for you then you'd know I'd run with you any day

Moab...EJS is the last week of March....that's where I'll be ...but the first half of April sounds good to me...I can take u through any of those trails....although still cool weather for mtn runs...I'm usually stilla playing in the desert that time of year..

JoeBot13 11-27-2012 09:07 PM

yeah that is why I was thinking the rattlesnake/heartbreak run ... desert into some lower elevation mountain stuff ...

Of course ... it might be a good time to hit up Truckhaven!! Okay I'm leaning towards that as of now ...

I am trying to avoid the large Moab crowds but at the same time waiting on my buddies kids school schedules to work around it. May get put off until the next year. Really a trip for him and his family as they have never been there and it is on his bucket list.

Also, did someone say Truckhaven? Another one of my favorite places to play, if the Moab thing does not work out we will definitely be doing Truckhaven.

JoeBot13 11-27-2012 09:36 PM

Alright then! I just checked and the TDS Safari is in March ... so we will miss the big crowds from that if we do it in April ... plus the wife has family in Palm Springs ... I think Truckhaven is taking the lead ...

Any other takers or input??

Yes they are. Easy to get lost in too. Just don't go in July or August. Hot, Hot, Hot!!!

JoeBot13 11-27-2012 11:54 PM

That threw me off for a minute ... I was thinking the Superstitions outside of Phoenix ... which also has a lost dutchman mine legend ... and also has fun trails to wheel on ...

Won't make any runs during the end of January ... we'll have our first group of trainees for the year in at that time ...

I need to hit that $500 million jackpot so I can just stop working and wheel full time ... who wants to pick me up a ticket??

April? Seriously?? It's almost a half a year away!!

I'll throw a vote in for Holcomb / Dishpan though they all sound fun.

lol ... i know ... 5 months is a long time away to make solid plans for anyone ... but I only get one weekend a month to make runs ... so April come up quick for me ... it's only 4 trips away ... lol

JoeBot13 12-04-2012 10:04 PM

Alright ... I've decided what I am going to do for early April ... I've been looking at making a St. George trip and I am going to start planning for the first weekend of April ... probably try to make it a 3 or 4 day trip ... I've got to start putting things together logistically ... and researching the trails

If anyone wants to join ... all are welcome ...

If anyone has experience with the trails up there ... I'll take all the info I can get as this will be a first time running St. George for me

Be aware that this is the same time as EJS ... Moab will be packed so hopefully St. George will not

Look for a thread for this popping up at the beginning of the year ...

Moab week is the week before Easter ...
Ur talkin the week after Easter ...right?

JoeBot13 12-04-2012 10:23 PM

oops I read the dates for 2012 ... yup ... I'm looking at going to St. George the weekend of April 6th ... so yup it's the week after!

I'm thinking Sand Hallow for a couple days at this point ... and might go to Zion afterwards to do the National Park thing as well

Jeepma79 12-07-2012 08:45 PM

I would be interested in Holcomb/dishpan as well.

SD-ROACH 12-08-2012 01:32 PM

I've only been up to BB once before. I'd like to get to know it better. I'm open to any runs up there. Just wish I didn't have to wait till April!

JoeBot13 12-08-2012 03:59 PM

There was a forum run up at Holcomb today :( ... Just missed it. BB is local to a lot of us so there is not usually a whole lot of planning that goes into it. Just keep searching the forum ... there are usually several that pop up on the forum a month ... I am willing to bet there will be another one by the end of the year.

In April I'm going to be heading up to St. George instead of BB. Gonna go to Sand Hollow State Park and hit the trails that they run in Winter On the Rocks, okay well at least the moderate to slightly difficult trails. But even the moderate trails have black diamond options. Some of the trails are even insanely difficult and unless you had a purpose built buggy forget it. It's very similar to Moab and a hell of a lot closer to home. I'm gonna post a thread about it at the beginning of January for anyone that wants to join.

Here is the link to Winter on the Rocks, gives an idea of the trails that are out at Sand Hollow: Winter on the Rocks

Of the trails I plan on hitting Zen, Overlook, West Rim, Milt's Mile, Sliplock Gulch, and Smurfette over a 2-3 day period.

SD-ROACH 12-10-2012 10:11 PM

Yikes! That looks like crazy fun! I guess you don't know if you can do it until you try right?
