Cleghorn

Hey everyone! I live here in SoCal and I'm finally going to take my 2012 sport out to cleghorn this Friday. Any advice?

I wasn't planning on going with any other vehicles. Just a friend.

Always wheel with at least one other Jeep. Just in case. It's the easy trails that end up doing the most damage. Lol

Agree with this. Try to go with at least one other in case you get stuck.

Do you have a lot of experience? Cleghorn isn't very hard, but has some hard parts if you do all the off shoots.

No I don't have much experience. I'm not looking to try any crazy stuff just yet. I just wanna get off these damn paved roads!

Your timing is definitely interesting: There have been Cleghorn runs the last 2 weeks in a row. There's always a bunch of runs during the winter because it's lower elevation.

There is a Last Chance Canyon run this Saturday. It's far, but may want to check it out.

S##t, I went last Sunday, and Grenaded my rear diff. It's being fixed under warranty. But if I had been alone, and broke an axle, it would have been a Long walk home. As it was, I limped it home under its own power. Always wheel with friends. Just saying.

I'll let you know after I get the Jeep out of the shop. Although I'm really itching to get back out to Calico.

My wife heard possible snow in big Bear this weekend. That might mean some mud and snow for the 15th. Your welcome to join us then.

Other side of Barstow. Calico Ghost Town. Great Rock Crawling. Dry Waterfalls, Rock Gardens, and all fairly close.

I just did Cleghorn for the first time Last week with another forum member and it was awesome. As others have mentioned don't wheel alone. If you're stock height I'd check out some of the lines before taking them to make sure you've got enough clearance to make it through. I remember seeing a really tough line towards the end that I ended up bypassing.

If you don't mind someone tagging along I might be able to make it.

So now it's raining here in SoCal through the weekend. Is cleghorn still ok or should I cancel.

If we get a lot of rain, I'd say no. Probably don't want to do it in sloppy conditions unless you're already an experienced wheeler AND have done the trail before.

On the other hand, if we just get a light rain, not enough to make a mess up there, that can be nice because there won't be any dust. Best time to wheel is after a light rain.

Just keep up with the weather conditions.

minisaba 11-29-2012 11:15 AM

I wouldn't do cleghorn alone and maybe not with only two jeeps because hills and mud can result in unexpected mishaps.
