Novak Transfercase Cable Shifter Question

I just installed my Novak Cable shifter on my NP231. I have to say what an amazing product. HUGE difference. It shifts like butter now. So my question is: Is it normal that mine shifts so smooth, its hard to distinguish from 4 hi from neutral or 4 lo. I know you shoudl be able to look and tell by the position of the shift lever, but I could barely tell when I changed between gears. Thanks in advance for all feed back.

I will be getting ready to install one, was it hard to install and get adjusted right?

G54 12-05-2012 07:44 PM

It is much easier to shift than the stock shifter, but you should still be able to feel it lock into each position.

I have one and yes it is a great product that is made in Utah. Very easy to install and so much better than stock. You should feel a slight difference when it goes from 2 wd to 4 high to 4 low. Yes the smoothness is normal and it is oh so nice.

Very easy to install! I highly recommend getting one. Thanks for the feed back.

Did it take a lot of adjusting to get everything just right?

doclouie 12-05-2012 08:42 PM

No it did not take a bunch of adjusting. They make it so easy to adjust things too so it maybe took 15-20 minutes.

I just did it last wed, and it look.a lil adjustment at that time. Sunday i went out wheeling and after playing, it wouldnt shift back into 2wd. So now i have to get under there and re adjust a bit. Prob my fault for not tightening up all the way ( or i hope it doesnt regularly do it) but prob just me.

Cool, I hope the install will go pretty smooth then, I'm so tired of fighting with my stock linkage..

Both the mounting brackets that hold th e cable have fittings you can adjust. Also where it mounts to the shifter arm on the transfer case. Once u install everything you will be able to tell what needs to be adjusted and how much. Remember to lossen the side of the fittings in the direction you want the cable to move.

Cool thanks, looking forward to getting this on and doing some wheelin!

Love mine - shifts smooth, but hard to figure out what gear it's in.

Trendsetter75 12-07-2012 11:28 PM

Where can I purchase the Novak Cable from, that has it the cheapest? Are TJ and LJ's the same size cable?

doclouie 12-07-2012 11:35 PM

I got mine through Savvy with a 10% off discount code.

Never have any issues getting into 4 low or popping out of 4 low?

Shua101 12-08-2012 11:03 AM

So I'm putting this amazing product in my tj, anybody know if the had dash light up problems after installing(4wd light) have an 4"as plus 1.5" bl on my TJ and right now the lights don't work because of the problem engaging the transfer case.

Jeeper4life 12-08-2012 01:10 PM

do they come on at all? Just not at the right times of the shift pattern? If so its probbely because your linkage is all out of whack.

Shua101 12-09-2012 11:28 AM

No not at all! I can get it into 4low and get it to lock in (but still no light)!!

Jeeper4life 12-09-2012 01:02 PM

Does it come on at all as you move the shifter?

Shua101 12-12-2012 10:18 AM

Nope no such luck. Looking for a way to fix

Jeeper4life 12-12-2012 01:07 PM

Maybe the bulb in the dash is burn't out? or maybe the t-case position sensor is bad?

geiman 12-12-2012 01:11 PM

If you disregard the light showing up, does the t-case actually shift properly? The light not working is fairly common.

Shua101 12-12-2012 01:28 PM

I will have to check the bulb and sensor! The bulb is a sealed unit with the cluster if I remember right

TripleNickle 12-12-2012 01:30 PM

Let us know what you find out, my 4x4 light does not work either, doesnt really bother me but if its a simple fix Ill do it.

doclouie 12-12-2012 04:01 PM

Mine comes on, but I have an auto and it looks like you guys have sticks.
