What transmission do i have?

I have a 97 2.5 with a 3 speed auto..i would like to change fluid and filter in the trans but i cant find exactly what trans i have..one site said it was a 30rh and another said i had a torqueflight tf 905..also could anyone tell me what transfer case i have? Thank you!

It's a 30rh.

Thanks for the quick reply..any idea on what fluid and filter i should put in her?

Filters are pretty basic and similar. I have bought Mopar branded filters from a dealer and they are the EXACT same ones bought from Autozone or other places.

For fluid, Chrysler trannys only really like ATF+4. Any +4 that is Chrysler certified is already a full synthetic and a very high quality fluid.

Thanks goatman..i will be doing that this week..heres my problem whenever the jeep sits for 2 or 3 days when i first start it up and dont let the fluid warm up it doesnt want to move and makes a grinding noise..after that it shifts and goes into gear like butter..but it only happens whenever its cold..any ideas?

Try starting it up in Neutral when it has been parked for an extended period of time, and see if the condition is still present.

Thank you for the great info! I have never started the jeep on neutral..but i have shift the jeep in neutral as it was making that grinding noise and it went away

For the transfer case, you have a NP 231. How many miles are on your Jeep?

screwystewy 12-04-2012 07:35 AM

Thank you and 150k miles...
