hard top window wont stay closed

about 4 times a week my hard top window in the back will be open. it is a 2000 tj with the old style hardtop with the vents behind the windows. it has soft top rear bar holders and those don't help any. the tailgate barely grabs the rubber seal at the bottom of the window is this a bad seal. i tried moving the glass down and that didn't work. any ideas its gonna start snowing soon and i don't want rust mold or mildew. please help thank you

Isn't the tailgate supposed to hold the glass closed? Maybe you might need new glass struts/shocks

I have a 2006. It was doing the same thing. I had a scrap piece of metal I bent it and mounted to the tailgate. Now it makes contact further up the rubber seal to keep it closed.
I also made a "Molle" bag rack for my FJ and took the other half and mounted on the Jeep. This helped the back window as well.

The bracket on either side of the tail gate opening is made taller for a hard top with a glass rear window. Replace that soft top bracket with the correct version for the hard top & it will hold the rear glass window shut.

Glue a piece of foam rubber to 3rd brake light bracket in line with the bottom of the rear window.

This is what I did. There is a square hole in the back of the third light. I got a stainless steel bolt 2 washers and 2 nuts. Put a nut on the bolt then a washer ,put that through the hole from the back side of the third light bracket, then a waster and the last nut. You can now adjust the nuts so the bolt pushes on the bottom plastic strip on the bottom of the glass glass. Cover the bolt threads with the plastic that comes on a spring style baseboard door stop. I believe the bolt I used was 3/8 x 2", see what the doorstop plastic will slide over. Everything at LOWES OR HOME DEPOT. GOOD LUCK

I had the same problem with my hardtop rear window popping open.
I glued a strip of soft rubber along the current piece that is already there so it extends further down and gives the tail gate more to push on.

Lossen the hinge bolts on the glass. There is a tiny bit of play and you may be able to slide the glass down a little. That took care of mine doing that.
