Has anyone else ever had an employee at Canadian tire or a different shop argue with you about your engine? When I asked him to search up an oil filter for a 1987 4l I6 he said there was only 2.5 and 4.2 lol I just went with the 4.2 and it was fine. Just in case I run into this problem again, are all the 4.2 parts compatible with a 4l?

What makes you think that you have a 4.0? An 87 should have a 4.2 or a 2.5 like the guy told you, unless of course some one swapped out the 4.2 for a 4.0. Is this F.I. or carburated?

It would help to know what engine is actually in your Jeep. If it is an '87 then it is a 4.2. If you have a 4.0 that has been swapped in then you should be telling the cashier the year that engine belongs to instead.
