Throttle Position Sensor

Has anyone removed or replaced the throttle position sensor on their jeep? I have been having a lot of trouble with getting the screws lossened to even remove the part. Does anyone have any tips? I drive a '99 and need to get this part fixed before I drive home from college after finals week. Thanks.

A new sharp torx bit will help, I put mine into a small 1/4" ratchet wrench to remove those particular screws which the factory locktited into place. The 1/4" ratchet wrench allows more torque against the screw as well as better control over it. Apply straight-in pressure to prevent the torx bit from slipping out of the torx screw & stripping it out.

This is exactly what it took for me, as well.

I had to bust the old one off enough to put vise grips on the bolt heads, I sure was not going to put torx bolts back in! (Someone had replaced it before, and had already stripped the heads out, Loctite on them didn't help any either!)

My engine light code showed I needed a new one took it to a automotive garage and had it done . No problems.

Taking the whole throttle body off is very easy - 4 easily accesible bolts and the accelerator cable.
Then it's much easier to get at the TPS torx (T20) and you can give the throttle body a good clean at the same time.
