Where can I get a passenger side tow hook to match the driver's side?

I'm wondering where I can either:

a) get the same part as the driver's side somewhere, flip it over, and bolt it to the passenger side,

b) get a passenger side hook that looks like the driver's side, or

c) get two matching hooks together that match.

Anyone have sources on either of these options?

Errrrrrrrrrr don't know what you have on the driver's side

Ebay

WOW! Look at all those tow hooks!!!!

Tow Hooks, front or rear?
For the rear, my son went onto a farm tractor supply website and got a pair of awsome hooks for the rear. The stock one on my Rubi was broken.
Haven't put them on yet though...

I did, and none of those are helpful nor do they answer my question. I have a tubular rear bumper with no mounting ability for a tow hook, nor do I want one on bumper. There is a single factory tow hook (more of a big J) on my driver's side bolted to the frame.

I'm asking: is the passenger side frame set up to accept one just like it? If so, can I get an identical one and flip it over, or would I need a passenger side specific hook?

Additionally, where I can get one of those? I do not see them sold anywhere. Are they called something different?

Kota7x 12-11-2012 12:19 PM

I have both the driver/pass tow hooks that came off of my Jeep when I got it. They look like a cube with a "J" on the top (if that is what you are looking for) PM if interested.

The passenger one is opposite in that the hook is on the opposite side of the cube

I'm starting to wonder if they aren't stock, given that no one seems to know what I'm talking about. I went out and took pictures:

And it's now clear that I can't get 2x of the same one, I want them bent down and in (I'll switch the one that's on there). I'd really like a pair of new ones, but they need to be low enough to clear the bumper so I can get a strap on and off. Would these have a different name than Rear Tow Hook? All I can find when I search for that is the smaller, cube style ones like I have on the front.

That a factory option. Found this from google. http://www.justjeepsoftexas.com/parts_used.php

I've got one but it's in new York and I'm in Florida

Slater451 12-11-2012 08:34 PM

Ohh mine was on the drivers side

Ehryk 12-11-2012 08:37 PM

Yeah, I'd need the same but bent the opposite direction, or an aftermarket pair, preferably. Does anyone make them, or is this something I'd have to have fabricated?

They only came with the driver side one if equipped. Just bolt one to the passenger side.

Michigunman 12-11-2012 08:44 PM

You could put one on the passenger side, but you wouldn't flip it. It would be oriented the same as the one on drivers side due to the shape of the frame there. So the hook would curve off to the left on both sides. If that bothers you and want both sides to be symmetrical you'd be better off just buying a couple basic tow hooks and mount them to the inside of the frame on each side.

Ehryk 12-11-2012 08:51 PM

I do not want them both facing left. I don't like the smaller hooks because straps like to fall off with slack, and I ski/sled behind my jeep at 40-70MPH, frequently with slack. With the hook I have, the strap wedges slightly under the bumper nicely and doesn't fall off regardless of slack.

Are there any better options? Aftermarket solutions? I want two larger, curved C's (not small hooks) both angled toward the center.

Slater451 12-11-2012 08:55 PM

How about a trailer hitch with a d-ring attachment

Here is the inside the frame option I was referring to. (picture care of Jerry Bransford). One hole is there, need to drill one on each side.

You'll have to fabricate what you are looking for. and even at that it'll be difficult to impress upon your fabricator that they need to support, at minimum 3 tons without breaking.. If you're just pulling sleds, then a T bar slid into your receiver hitch with hooks on the ends would work. we used to do the same with hooks on the ends of the drawbar of our old John Deere... Those darned tube bumpers make a lot of rather easy things much more difficult than they otherwise are.. Good luck ;)

Get a pair of factory front tow hooks from a GMT400 truck. Err, 88-98 Chevy truck.

KaiserJeep 12-12-2012 02:30 AM

That factory rear tow hook you show is specific to the TJ Rubicon model. I bought another one from another Forum member and I have one on each side. The mounting holes already exist, you will need to buy new bolts that are 1/2" longer for the passenger side.

Slater451 12-12-2012 03:48 AM

That hook is a rubicon only part ???? My 06 SE 4 cyl came with one I had to take it off to put on my trailer hitch

KaiserJeep 12-15-2012 10:38 AM

Yes it is Rubicon only. Most people remove them and sell them to other Jeepers when they fit a rear bumper with recovery points.

Patrick H 12-15-2012 10:57 AM

It is not Rubicon only. Slater451 stated that his SE had one, and my Sport had one.
