Last Minute BL questions

I'd like to hear from people having 1ST HAND experience. No "well I've heard that...." stuff...

Is a 2" body lift "too much"? That's really it. I can't afford a suspension lift, so I figure a BL will work for now. Torn between a Zone 1.25" and 2" BL

So 1st hand experience, meaning you personally own a 1.25" or 2" BL (doesn't HAVE to be Zone)

Thanks in advance guys

Stick with a 1 to 1.25" at the tallest. 2" and taller just present too many installation problems, especially with the shifters.

Even if it comes with all the extension parts?

2" spacer lift is cheaper then any body lift. I bought mine from Fat Bobs Garage for like $60. Stock shocks will work up to 2" too.

CMA_Rider 12-09-2012 07:10 PM

1.25bl easy install
2bl harder cause you have to extend the fuel filler hose and you'll probably have shifting problems

You can get a 2bb for $50

Thomas302 12-09-2012 07:11 PM

1.25" is max recommend. Anything more than that looks dumb, will be a pain to install and will cause so many interferences to workout.

No matter even if it comes with a trained Trunk Monkey to help install it.

LOL that's good enough for me

OK, you guys wanna tell me what exactly a BB lift entails? What does that even mean?

Jerry Bransford 12-09-2012 07:48 PM

BB = Budget Boost. A BB is a 2" suspension lift that achieves its 2" from either 2" taller springs or 2" polyurethane spacers placed on top of the factory springs. The cheapest BB kits don't include longer shocks to match the 2" taller suspension height but longer shocks are recommended. Some install their 2" BB and never install longer shocks but it's better if you do since the stock length shocks won't let your suspension flex downward far enough in many offroad situations to take advantage of the taller suspension's potential.

So if I don't a whole lot of off-roading, mines navigating my dirt road after the rain (which is a PITA loll) longer shocks aren't required? Will I need anything other than the spacers?

Lol awesome!

A 1-1.25" is usually part of the build process . A 2" is something you will want to remove asap rather than build upon . As you gain experience and knowledge about TJ's one size has a future and one size don't.

So BB is brand new to me, and definitely seem to be the way to go. Tell me, how reliable as a brand is teraflex? I found some teraflex front and rear coil spacers at summit for $142, is this a decent price?
Thanks

Pretty much all BB's are the same. Theres no reason to pay $142 when you can get the same thing for $50 with a no name brand. Search ebay 2bb

Comes with 4 spacers and 4 bump stops, $124-139. Keep looking or is this a decent deal?

You can make your own bumpstop extensions for under $10, thats what im doing friday. The question is are you willing to pay the extra $50-60 for alittle less work. (Mind you that the extra money is going towards plastic parts)

You dont "need" shocks with a 2" lift. Im still running my stock shocks

thedaringmove 12-10-2012 10:29 PM

Make your own bumpstops like he suggested and get some cheap shocks of your choice.

True... But it's cheap and worth it if your not planning on getting a lift lift anytime soon

Homemade Shock spacers

Kevin063 12-15-2012 04:46 PM

Hey guys, would a 3" BB be too much for stock shocks?

CarolinaBound 12-15-2012 04:58 PM

Go with the tried and true 2 inch. Never even heard of BB being 3 inches tall, sure there are plenty of reasons people smarter than me can explain. You would definitely need new shocks for that though.

3" is too much for a puck lift. You will have to upgrade your shocks if you did get it. For the price of shocks and the 3bb just get a 3" lift kit or get a 2"bb and a 1.25bl/mml

No name companies make em and sell em on ebay

Kevin063 12-15-2012 05:07 PM

That's what I thought, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks guys

Kevin063 12-21-2012 08:56 PM

So I found a 3" BB lift WITH shocks for $179. It feels like a great deal, but what do you guys think? All i'd need is bump stops, but I've read that they aren't totally mandatory for somebody who doesn't wheel often(ME Lol) but I digress

So, 3" BB with shocks for $179. Yes or No?

CarolinaBound 12-21-2012 10:01 PM

Stick with a 2 inch bb and keep the stock shocks if your on a budget
