Black dash trim question

Hi everyone!

Today I saw a Jeep Sahara Unlimited (2011-2012) that had the contour of the heat vents and the glovebox handle that was painted gloss black instead of it being aluminium...and it looked amazing! Does anyone of you know if it comes factory or was it the owner that did it himself? If the owner did paint it, does anyone of you know how to do this?

Thanks! :)

MikeK46 12-10-2012 03:13 PM

It comes factory on the Altitude Edition ;)

I don't think you can order these pieces from Mopar, though. If you can, I'd like to know about it so I can scoop them up myself! They sell the black JEEP logo from the Altitude, so I don't see why they can't sell these trim pieces as well...

That does look sharp. I haven't seen this option anywhere, save when people did it themselves. I'd love to know though! I've been considering painting some of that myself.

kramer2k 12-10-2012 05:50 PM

Just take them off and paint it gloss black and it'll match the Altitude look.

I've been searching around for the Altitude interior pieces. No luck.

dozer_77 12-10-2012 07:23 PM

Same here. I guess I will have to do it myself. It might just be hard to sand the contours of the air vents since they are small and detailed.

Here's a thread on painting the trim. Looks great when you match the outside colour.

My gawd, that looks soooooo much better than my dash with the stupid silver accents... uhg! :(

Thanks for the link! Its great information to get me started. I think I will stick with black though...Im afraid putting dozer inside might make me tired of the color.

My Moab has a Charcoal grey finish on them.

TheKid23 12-10-2012 08:08 PM

Do the vent accents just pop out with some force?

Twist them, then they'll pull right out as a whole unit.

robskully 12-10-2012 09:34 PM

Ahhh, ok. In my old 2010 they were a little easier. On the newer ones, I guess you need to push a small tab down with a screwdriver.

Still easy. :)

Interior Trim

I have been searching for the Altitude trim pieces since I bought my White JKUR 2 months ago. Well I have been searcing all over and called the dealer to see if Mopar offers the black trim. It seems they do not offer the colors that they put in their special edition jeeps, hence special editions. They offer blue, yellow, red, and silver.

I came across this interior link which will get you most any black piece you want, plus any other color design you may want. However, it does not replace the core pieces, such as the vent rings etc.

So I may go with removing them myself and painting, then adding some other accent pieces from the kit from Remin.

I am also just worried about not getting the airvent rings just right with paint. I was thinking about having them hydrodipped as well.

I am going to end up painting them myself. Those kits dont replace the areas of the dash I want. Thanks for sharing :)

They have had these for a while now, but probably will never carry black, since it was a special edition they offered it in.

Who knows, but black looks nice for sure.

If anyone has a 4 door Sport that is thinking about painting, let me know. I have the bright silver in mine and would like to trade for the Sport's dark charcoal pieces. I figure if you're painting them, it won't matter what color underneath it is.

I would be willing to trade you jeff if you haven't already painted yours black

dgpal2 05-03-2014 10:26 AM

Has anyone had any issues removing the center vent closest to the steering wheel? Something is catching on the top of the vent after turning it clockwise. The bottom is loose but the top is stuck. Any ideas?

Make sure you watch the YouTube video on removing them. There is a small tab you have to depress with a screw driver to get them out. The video explains it much better.

It kinda annoys me that my dad's sport with crappy 16" wheels has better interior trim pieces that my new rubi... I got into his the other day and offered to trade him all my trim, tried to tell him I would be doing him a favor by "upgrading" his jeep to the rubi interior.

He was having none of it.
