Key won't unlock driver door

Hey guys! Got a question. So my key to my Jeep will not unlock my driver side door but it works for my passenger and the rear also. When I try to unlock it, it won't move. It just sits there as if I am using the wrong key or something.

I am not sure if the lock has ever been replaced or not, but what do I do to fix it or where do I go to get a new one?

Does anyone have any instructions on how to replace it on my 97 wrangler?

Thanks!

any auto parts store would have a new lock mechanism. they're relatively cheap most of the time. to replace, just take off the interior door panel, reach in disconnect the lock from the latch, and remove it. not 100% sure what holds them in as I haven't done it in a while. but it can be done in 30 mins.

I had the same problem with my 98 a while back. I took the inner panel off and found that the door lock rod retainer was broken.... its a little plastic clip. I googled it, found the part (s) on ebay and was done with it. Pretty easy job actually. I think I had to buy a pair and they were about 10 bucks, which is a lot for what they are, but if you want to lock the door and unlock it later.....you need the part.

If the lock isn't moving you may want to try a dry lubricant injected into the lock to assure that it isn't a sticking pin within the lock. Usually locks with broken rod components will turn, but not open the door.

mine was doing the same thing, I sprayed the key with PBLaster. I did it as a joke we were sitting around and talking about how PBLaster fixes everything and I went "not this key" sprayed it and used it... and it worked... still works now 6 months later.

Shoot some TriFlo Teflon spray in the lock and try it before you tear things apart.

Another reason why i love this forum... Just saved money. Threw some lubricant in there and worked like a charm!
Thanks guys!

I used to lock my Jeep. Then I read about how many people won't lock it to (hopefully) avoid having someone cut the top to break in (expensive!). I haven't locked mine since. Criminals are mostly too dumb to know they could just unzip. Of course, hardtops would be entirely different...
