Thinkin of getting a 05 unlimited advice, please.
Hey guys I wanna know what you guys know and think of the 05 unlimited wrangler? I want to go off roading with it and make it a daily driver. I was also thinking of going new with the Rubicon model.
I would have to replace the front axle and put in lockers to make it close to a Normal Rubicon. Im woundering if its worth it?
Heres the link of the one that I, looking at. Thanks for any an all info guys.

Seems like a good price. I have been looking to get rid of my 2000 TJ and get a LJ rubicon. They are pretty hard to find.

6InARowMakesItGo 12-12-2012 07:39 PM

go there tomorrow and buy that. it is an excellent deal.

Mikey-T 12-12-2012 07:42 PM

You could always just lock the front Dana 30. They are suppose to be good up to 35" tires and 4.88 gears. Does that LJ have the limited slip in the back?

Im not sure if it has limited slip in the back or not? This isnt a rubicon which is sort of what I want. I could always put a d44 in the front but the the cost goes up. Would it be worth it? How can I tell or know?

quadman14 12-12-2012 08:15 PM

Pull a vin check to see what it came with there are a couple that give you equipment/option of vehicle. . I think?? the unlimited has D44 rear well at least mine does. It probably is LMSl diff rear

booty900 12-12-2012 08:21 PM

I bought an 06 LJ this summer. Would that have a limited slip in the back?

SS Adrenaline 12-12-2012 08:28 PM

So even though its not a rubicon is it a good deal?

JYJeep 12-12-2012 08:37 PM

its a good deal. i have the same model paid more 2.5 years ago and put even more in lifting etc.
get it, wheel it and then decide what to mod

TheBigMan 12-12-2012 08:40 PM

Great deal, get it. And when you do, trade me the Ravine wheels!

I bought an 05 LJ this year, very clean, soft top and got it for 14900.. with 80K miles. no rust at all.. limited slip, d30 up front; d44 out back. upgraded to 17" wheels and 33" tires. About to do gears and elockers front and back.

so what you have there is a very good deal, if its pretty rust free.. I say buy it and enjoy it.

BigMan, I will sell you my wheels and tires.. pm me..

That's a really good deal. Around here that would sell for $16-18k. I even did the conversions to see what the real numbers were!
Buy it. I'd rather have the LJ, but can't find the right deal. Scratch that, can't find the right way to convince the wife.

All LJ's have a limited slip in the rear. They are all the same setup except for rubi's.

beetle 12-12-2012 11:13 PM

that seems to be a smoking deal especially with the km's on it. looks good from the pics as long as it checks out in real life! If it was around when I was buying mine I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.

Lando25 12-13-2012 12:00 AM

Almost seems too good to be true, I find it strange that the mileage is listed in km. Hopefully everything checks out.

Edit. I'm on my phone and didn't see the dealer is in Winnipeg. Conversion rate would probably only tack on a couple hundred bucks for us here in the states. Great find.

Agreed - I love my LJ! The extra length and cargo smooth out the ride without hurting offroad capability (at least for what I've been on).

I love mine. Same year, but lower miles. Mine is a daily driver but I still wheel the hell out of it. I also run the 30 up front with no problems. I even have selectable lockers on both with gears and 35s. Runs like a champ on and off road.

Get the LJ, you will love it. The first upgrade I vote for on that one is to get rid of that chrome grill though. :thumb:

I just picked up my first Jeep, an 05 LJ with 29k with both hard and soft tops. So far I'm thrilled with it. Lots of cargo room with the back seat rocked forward, and tons with it removed. My Great Dane is loving it compared to the regular cab truck I was driving. Trying to talk myself in to paying it off before lift/rims/tires but that's probably just not realistic

Are those heated seat buttons I see??

friedfish 12-13-2012 04:37 AM

In regards to the front Dana 30. Like others have posted before me it's a good axle. If your really concerned about wanting a Dana 44 up front. I would do a "super 30" kit. It upgrades the diff to Dana 44 guts. Which is really what a rubicon front axle is. Just a Dana 30 with Dana 44 axles in it.

Eddie2005unlimited 12-13-2012 06:31 AM

I have had my 05 LJ for 1 month and love it.

lynn 12-13-2012 06:35 AM

I own an '05 LJ.

I couldn't be happier.
With a moderate lift and aggressive tires, it's a capable offroader.

Buy it. :)

DarthLEGO 12-13-2012 10:17 AM

Had my 06 LJ as my DD. Off roading is in my future Love it. Buy that thing!!!

SS Adrenaline 12-13-2012 06:01 PM

Yes they do. Mine was on the lot less then a few days before I grabbed it. And this is from a place that exclusively sells Wranglers and Willys.

They had a second one that was gone a day or two later. If you really want one, check it out and snag it ASAP if it is sound(ish). :D

DBoat 12-14-2012 08:23 AM

I think the only reason my stayed on a lot for a few days was because it was on an Audi lot. Not many Jeep buyers looking there for one.

jrussblues 12-14-2012 05:11 PM

Lj's came standard with a trak-lock or trash-lock in the rear. They are garbage.

SS Adrenaline 12-14-2012 05:16 PM

Guys, you wont beleive this. I got a call back today and apparently the other guy bailed on the jeep so I got a crack at it. I went down at lunch and took it for a test drive. I went to the floodway and almost got it stuck. It was so funny. Man I love that engine with the 6 speed. Its way better then the 3.8 that I test drove in a jk rubicon. So the manager let me see everything about it. It was on their lot for 95 days and he just wanted to get ride of it. So I told him, could we nagociate a fix in price for the fan blower. (The second position didnt work). He said that he would take off an additional $200 and fill the tank with fuel. I said sold.
I cant believe it. Im a jeep man now after so long. This is my first jeep.
I dont mind telling you guys what I paid. I got it for $12.8k.
How do you guys think I did?
They replaced the front two brakes and rotors and. u joint to get it saftied. I think they were just rusted from sitting so much.

It has command start, heated seats and a usb charger......for some reason......
It does come with a soft top but Im not sure all the peices are there.
Im pretty pumped. I thought forsure I was going to buy brand new.
let me know what you guys think.
jeep wave.
