Craiglist Ad.. Real or scam
I found this on craiglist this evening but I'm highly skeptical of this.

wichita falls all for sale / wanted classifieds "Jeep wrangler 2006" - craigslist

It's one of those "to good to be true" type deals. It's supposedly fairly close to me. I dropped them a short email, waiting for reply.

Considering how many times it was posted worries me. Here's the link to the actual Jeep

Gorgeus 2OO5 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

If this turns out to be real and they still have it, and I get to look it over and drive it, I would easily drop $2K on this thing.

I've never dealt with Craigslist before so what do you guys and gals think? Real or scam?

Timberline 12-18-2012 09:20 PM

Easily a scam!! One of the best ways to tell a scam if you are searching for a vehicle through your "local" Craigslist is to look at the details of the pictures. With that I mean look at the landscape in the background like trees and bushes, etc. I mean I live in Colorado and yet I see vehicle sales on there that say they are local but they have an awkward price and then there are palm trees in the pictures. Really?? But when you see ads like that where the trees are all still green and it is now winter and trees should not be so green and the price is so low, easily a scam!!

Dextreme 12-18-2012 09:21 PM

Scam...the whole ad is an image. Report it.

bmbillups 12-18-2012 09:22 PM

Definitely a scam. Went through all these annoying things looking for my wrangler. IF you get an email back it will probably be something along the lines of "moved away or in military. will offer free shipping of the jeep to you. so no you cant see the jeep but its in perfect condition." Some of them even say it was their husbands before he died. Some people are just sick

beaureed445 12-18-2012 09:22 PM

2 different email addresses above pics, a different one below. SCAM!

bmbillups 12-18-2012 09:23 PM

haha i think all three of us posted at the same time

dylan1991 12-18-2012 09:31 PM

Thanks guys. I kinda felt like it was. I was hoping maybe there was that off chance someone was just really looking to get rid of one. That's one of the reasons I've generally stayed away from craigslist. I've never been comfortable with it.

SeVeReDiStOrTiOn 12-18-2012 09:33 PM

C'mon man you shouldn't even need to ask...even if that rubi was a salvage it would be worth 8k.

LilYeller 12-18-2012 09:39 PM

Yea never trust anything without a phone number. Those ads are there to generate a list of live email addresses so the poster can sell them. Prepare for a bunch of spam email now, sorry.

Well lucky for me I used my email Addy that is used for crap like that. Still feel kinda stupid though.:doh:

Anyone have some basic guideline for craigslist?

And why do phone number have a mix of numbers and letters sometimes?

Water Dog 12-18-2012 09:50 PM

Looks like it's supposed to be a dealer. If it is, I'm thinking the same guy that left the "o" out of Gorgeous, might have left a "0" off the $2000.

Timberline 12-18-2012 09:51 PM

It honestly just takes some practice by using Craigslist to spot the bad ones right off the bat. Just really pay attention to the ads, the pictures, the cost, etc. If you do ever respond to an ad, I NEVER reply from a main email account. I always use a junk account that I may have like hotmail, aol, gmail, etc. Never give them your number in replying to an ad. If you think an ad might be legit, just email them and ask them what area of the city they are located in as you are interested in the item. That is a sure way to find out if it is spam or not on how they respond.

There are programs that sniff out phone numbers and email addresses from websites and postings. So the mix of letters, numbers, and spelled out numbers for the phone numbers as well as substituting "at" and "dot" within an email address, are intended to avoid having your phone or email spammed.

As of current be very careful of craigslist. For about the last three (3) months there has been somebody listed as a Dealer selling Rubicons with pictures of good looking custom ones for low prices like $2000 to $4500. He never gives a phone number and sometimes not even a e-mail address. When he does give a e-mail address it just doesn't look correct. I found these posted in both Tucson and Phoenix listings. When I looked over the background landscaping, I could tell by the landscape and trees with no leaves that it was not from our area. This guy is either posting these as a joke, or a scam.

no it's a scam. i'd bet money that the same exact ad is posted all across the U.S. i've seen the exact one here.

Slater451 12-18-2012 11:10 PM

Yup scam. Same add here in Florida a week ago!

Zurn 12-18-2012 11:15 PM

Same ad here in So Dak.... Too bad it's a scam. Was going to trade even up for my deed to the Brooklyn Bridge

Z-TJ 12-18-2012 11:49 PM

Googled the email and came up with this.

baker3 12-19-2012 07:58 AM

Easiest way to figure if it's a scam is to simply e-mail the person and ask to see the vehicle. You will likely get a response about shipping the vehicle using "E-Bays Protection Program". A guy I was in Iraq fell for a scam like that buying an Avalanche that should have cost over 20K but he paid 8K for it and refused to believe it was a scam. Sometimes common sense is helpful too because his Avalanche never showed up. Another one I almost got scammed for was a 06 Raptor 660 the guy was "working" overseas and wanted to ship it to me after I paid. I asked him where it was and said I only lived 5 minutes away. Responses stopped lol.

greg_24 12-19-2012 10:29 AM

think it's a scam. I saw the same rubi listed on CL under Nashville, Tn last week and it got flagged

Miser 12-19-2012 01:25 PM

That guy/girl is a SCAMER all the way! I have seen him for several months both on craigslist and the Auto Trader trying sell premium looking wrangler at give away prices. This person must drive around and take pictures when he sees a nice one. Just look at the terrain, which will give you some idea logistically where he/she is from.
Either he/she is trying to rip us off, or someone is just bored with life and looking for something to do.
Well he/she is not going to rip this old Miser off, no it's not going to happen!!!!!!!!!
He also says that he/she is a Dealer, WHAT A JOKE........

dolson60174 12-19-2012 02:07 PM

f'n scammers...

dylan1991 12-19-2012 07:11 PM

Here's the email i got back lololololol

First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my car (2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon). I sell it at this price ($2,000 - this is my bottom price) because i just finished the divorce with my husband. It has only 49,250 miles!!! The car is fully paid off, clean title. I have title in hand. I bought it since new and has only been adult driven and garage kept. I just had it serviced and put in a new battery a couple of months ago. All required maintenance up to date, never smoked in, like new condition. It has Highway miles, No accidents, Non-smoker, been well maintained, never off-roaded. The A/C is super cold and everything else is in excellent working condition. This Rubicon will drive anywhwere in any condition (rain, snow, mud, sand...anywhere), can be driven as 2 or 4 wheel drive and you can also lock the differential. This beautiful blue Jeep is a real eye catcher, ready to go and needs a new owner that can appreciate it.
This car runs as good as a new one and has no dings, dents, or scratches. The divorce has finished 6 months ago and the car is mine now. After the divorce I was forced to buy a new house. Following the financial crisis I can't afford to pay the bank and I decided to sell the car.
I'm very busy with my job and I'm out of town right now so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the Internet. From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay. I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services (I will receive the payment only after you receive and inspect the car and only if you agree to buy it). We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated with eBay and I have a purchase protection account. The last price for this car is $2,000. I will pay for shipping and handling (the loan of my previous buyer didn't get approved, so, there won't be any additional shipping costs). If you are interested in buying it please provide me your full name and address for shipping so I can initiate the deal through eBay. I will wait your answer (if you are interested to buy) very soon.
Kind regards,

I replied and told "her" she would have to ship me the Jeep before I would send any money :firedevil:

Oddly enough, no reply to that email

dabolt55 12-19-2012 07:46 PM

That same scam here in T. I flagged it every chance I got..I HATE scammers!!!!

Timberline 12-19-2012 09:07 PM

She's so sweet!

baker3 12-19-2012 09:15 PM

LOL!! I knew they would mention the "Ebay Protection Plan"!!

Zurn 12-19-2012 10:05 PM

I wonder how many times they have sold it so far......

WaterDR 12-20-2012 12:06 AM

Anyone who buys a car on CL without seeing it and sends money in advance deserves to have their money taken especially if the price is obviously out of whack.

SeVeReDiStOrTiOn 12-20-2012 12:07 AM

Karen  Never seen a Nigerian named Karen before so it must be legit. I'm paypaling her my Christmas money as we speak...gettin me a Rubi byoutches!!!
