KMC Rockstar Wheels [Backspacing HELP]

Happy Holidays everyone...

My Christmas present will be a set of 20" Rockstars with Toyo's newest Open Country AT2's in 35x12.5x20 and need your help choosing the right backspace on the Rockstar wheels.

I would like the tire to come out a little of the flair [up to 2 inches] and would like to know which of the 3 offsets available will fit the look I'm after without any compromise in the drivability of my Jeep.

They have 3 options that can fit on the Wrangler

20x8.5 - two offsets [+10mm and +35mm]
20x10 with a [-24mm]

Here's a picture of the look I'm after... Hope you guys can help me out :thumb:

thanks a lot for your help,
Charles

If the offset is the same as backspacing, neither of the three options will work. Not sure if the offset numbers you provided are acurate as the stock wheels are, I believe, in the 4.5(114 mm) to 5(127 mm) inch range on backspacing. The numbers you listed are between .4 and 1.4 inches of backspacing which would put about 99% of your wheel/tire outboard of the hub.

From what you are describing that you want, for looks, you will need either an 8 inch wheel with 3.5 inch (89 mm) to 4 inch (102 mm) of backspacing or a 10 inch wheel with 4 inch (102mm) backspacing.

I have the 20X10 4.56bs w/ 325/60/20 & I like the look, they do stick out past the fenders about 1.75" (I haven't actually measured). I didn't choose the 8.5" wide wheel because the tire called for a ~10-13 wide wheel, plus 5.13bs was more than I'd read is good w/o spacers.

Jaker did you have spacers on yours, any rubbing?

Mastersonics 12-19-2012 10:59 AM

Sweet guys...!

Do you have by any closer side shots so I can see the tire and flair?

The other thing is that I like the look of the wheel to be more deep if that makes any sense...

I've seen Rockstars and some of them the spokes look too shallow
I like the center part to look deeper and not so close to the lip

Here are a few pictures so you can see what I'm talking about
The first one looks too shallow and the second picture looks better to me.

Hope you can help me out
thanks,
Charles

Also the Toyo Open Country AT2 accepts these size wheels as per their website

8.5-10.0-11.0

cheers,
Charles

I think the reason the first pic looks shallow is because they trimmed the center cap mounting post, it looks like Jaker did this also, my guess is both of those wheels in the pics are 8.5" wide.

I think Jaker jk mentioned this somewhere but I can't remember

Hope he can chime in...

thanks,
Charles

The center caps have post/spacers that can be trimmed (made shorter, closer to the wheel). You can google "trim rockstar center caps" & find some people who've done this.

There are MM caps too:

Hi Mopar

I wasn't talking about the center caps but thanks a bunch for the info.
I meant that Jaker did mentioned the wheels depth somewhere and I'm hoping he can chime in with that info.

thanks,
Charles

Mopar

I would love if you can take a side shot to see how much the tire sticks out of the flair

cheers,
Charles

Mopar2Ya 12-19-2012 04:13 PM

OK, I'll get some more pics, it may be a few days.

I'm trying to figure out the same issue. I just got the KMC Rockstar 18"

Jaker jk 12-19-2012 10:54 PM

No spacers and I didn't trim the star

8.5 are not deep , the 10" rim is the deep one , so if you want them deep you have to get the 10" wheel

8.5

Here's a few pics, keep in mind a slight angle on the cam effects the outcome. There are more at photobucket mopar2ya2.

Thanks sooo much Mopar
That's good enough and it's exactly what I'm looking for... :punk:

The only problem is that I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks because the place I'm bying them [Mr. Wheel Deal] have them backordered...

Questions:
1. You don't have any spacers right?
2. Which lift is that?

thanks a lot
regards,
Charles

Mopar2Ya 12-23-2012 07:06 PM

I have no spacers, my tires 325/60/20 (~36/13/20) are taller & wider than most 35/12.5/20. I have an AEV 3.5" lift.

Mastersonics 12-23-2012 07:43 PM

Funny thing
Look up the 35x12.5x20 on the Toyo website so I can see the real size and they are GONE...! No mention of that size anywhere

I guess I can't win this time, frustrated :banghead:

C

Mopar2Ya 12-23-2012 10:35 PM

Yeah, not that many tires fit 20's.

TheRicker 12-23-2012 10:57 PM

I bought these in 18" and still haven't put them on yet cause i'm undecided on what tire and how much lift cause its my daily driver. which means about 80 hwy miles a day!

TheRicker 12-23-2012 10:59 PM

hey jakker what front bumper is that? Looks real good!

EpsilonZer0 12-23-2012 11:06 PM

Nitto Trail Grapplers come in 35x12.5x20. Can find those anywhere.

Jaker

The link you posted was for the MT's and not for the AT2's
It still looks like they took the 35's out of their roster...:banghead:

Anyway.... Happy Holidays everyone..>!
