OEM Fog light bulb type?

Anybody know of the top of their head what type of bulb is used in the OEM fog lights on the JKU?

I'd like to run mine as Daytime Running Lights but dont wanna burn out the bulbs every few months, so I am thinking about swapping out the filament bulb with an LED replacement bulb...if I can figure out what sort of bulb to replace.

Same fixture....different bulb.

Any thoughts?

11-13 uses the H16 which goes by many other names... 5202, 9009... a few others i cannot remember.. in the 2012 and 2013 owners manuals they are named something else but they are truely an H16

Is actually called a "psx24w."

You can use a h16 bulb, but you have to cut off several tabs on the new bulb's plastic housing to get it to work.

Or, you can do what I'm doing and swap out the factory fogs with a glass H3 replacement housing, then use any H3 bulb of your choice. Details here:
http://www.jk-forum.com/jk-write-ups...pl360c-239601/

If you choose to stick with the stock plastic housing and use H16 bulbs, be careful not to go any/much higher than 24 watts. Otherwise, you might end up melting the plastic! :(

Oooooohhh me likey!!

THanks muches

Here are some H16 yellow 24watt drop-ins that would work if you shave the tiny tab off the side:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...w=130685323900

Or, you can go the H3 glass replacement housing route, like me. :)

paleh0rse 12-20-2012 12:47 AM

You could also try these drop-in Yellow LED H16 replacements if you prefer LEDs:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...685&cmd=VIDESC

Writeup here:

Warnings:
1. ignore the part about cutting the housing
2. These don't put out much light in Yellow, and the white ones are more like Floods than Fogs...

Weird. I went to this and their part search tool said they didn't have one compatible for 2013 WU?

I just purchased these and they suck. They DO need to be modded to fit. All of the tabs are in the wrong places. That being said, I trimmed them with my Drexel and got them to work. They are extremely bright white but don't put off much light at all. It pretty much makes the fogs into DRL's only.... I will eventually have to go with JW SPEAKERS ..... I would save my money on these... Hell I'll sell you mine.

I installed these $10 H16 68SMD white LED fog lamps. direct fit w/ no mods. didn't have to remove the bumper or anything.

I honestly can't tell if they are any different. I guess I should have used the fogs more before I installed them.

on a side note, the $20 interior LED lamps I got from the same store are AWESOME. Way brighter.

was the interior bulb set complete? do they offer the footwell bulbs?

Argent 12-05-2013 11:05 AM

if you opt for the license plate bulb too on the JKU

Quote:

This kit will come with:

2x Overhead LED MAP Lights (CANBUS)
1x Mid Cabin LED Dome Light (CANBUS)
1x Rear License Plate LED Light (CANBUS)
Total 4 LED Bulbs

so no to the footwells which are soldered on and not really 'replaceable'

ok..thanks...but I'm confused, my JKU has 2 map lights in the rearview mirror and 2 dome lights...after reading what comes in the kit, it doesnt appear to cover everything

Argent 12-05-2013 01:17 PM

the map lights in the mirror can't be replaced either - also soldered in

Iron Clad Lou 12-05-2013 01:31 PM

ugh...ok...thanks!

Can you take a picture of this. I'm being told they can be changed but it's not a reliable source. I would just like to confirm before ordering LED's

the footwell lights are already hard wire LEDS. same with the map lights in the mirror. they aren't something you could just pull & replace lamps.

the 2014 footwell lights are pathetic. I will have to find some other LED option for there.
