Wanting to install a 4" lift to my TJ
 
Hey, I'm new to the community, never understood Jeeps until my buddy took me out in a Rubicon last year and we did some crazy trails in , AZ. After that, I had to get myself a Jeep.
I couldn't afford a Rubicon or anything special, I got a stock 2006 SE. But I want to put a lift on it, preferably a 4". But I'd love some input on what all I need to get and some ideas on and ease of doing all the installation myself.
I've been browsing already, I love how helpful and informative everything on this sight is. I'm interested in whatever input you got.

Welcome :thumb:
+4in springs
+4in shocks
front and rear adj. trac bars with jj
sye and ds
adj. rear control arms with jj
front control arms with jj
front disconects or a antiroc sway bar
proper bump stops
brake lines
then you'll want bigger tires witch you will need new rims with the proper back spacing then being you got a se the 4banger wont like the new tires so got to regear to 4.88's or 4.56's

It realy dose not end there you will always want more :facepalm:
This would be the better way to go. take your time spray all the bolts your out west so things should go little nicer than here in pa where are rust has rust :nonono:

My '06 SE is a 4.0. I think after a certain year ('05?) they made the I6 in the SE. I have a 4" lift on 33's and seem to do just fine with stock gearing... Although I would like to change it out. It bothers me in my mind

IMO some people are "all right" with stock gearing and some people have issues. I feel some of it is where a person lives. And also how some people drive...for me 90% of the time my stock 3.73s with 33"s and a five speed is fine.

It has changed a little of how I drive...I can no longer loaf around town in 5th and just accelerate when I need to speed up. I spend most of my time in 4th now. I also need 1st gear now...whereas before I did not.

IMO get about 50-75% of your lift in the suspension and not just blocks or pucks and get the rest in BL and MML...I think you will be surprised how civil a lifted Jeep can be if done right!!

Yeah, mine is the 4.0. How hard is it to do the work on the lift myself? How about re-gearing, is that difficult?

a lift is easy to do yourself.

regearing should be done by a professional that does this all the time, unless you want to take a pretty detailed lesson in gear setup and buy a whole variety of tools you'll never use again.
