Tire Size Recommendations

I'm planning on purchasing new tires for my Jeep Wrangler 2000 Tj but know almost nothing about tires besides that I heard that 31's are a good size, I want to have an aggressive look to my jeep with the tires sticking out of my 6 inch fender flares do you guys have any recommendations?

To get a tire past those flares would take a 12.50 wide tire like a 33 12.50 15 and a rim with 3.75" back spacing.

What do you mean by back spacing and do you think those size tires would do well on a stock I6 wrangler?

You will probably notice a considerable downturn in the get up and go department but most run 33's without changing differential gears. Backspacing is the distance from the inside lip of the rim to where the hub contacts the rim. If you are looking to push the tires out from 6" flares you will need a 3.75" backspacing to push the rim out and a 12.50 wide tire to push the tire out. 15x8 rims will do well. The pic attached is that exact set up on my rig.

MonkeyManZac,

When it comes to tires there are millions of different options out there. 31s are a great size tire to run with. I started out with 31s when I started with my JK build.

For what your looking for in a 31 to stick out far to give you that mean aggressive look a 31x10.5 tire is going to be your best beat. If you wanted to go even wider you can go to a 12.5. But you'll probably need to jump go up a size to 33s.

Check out the 33x12.5 tires we carry and 31x10.5 tires let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help. Feel free to shot me a PM, I can hook you up with the WF discount. We have tons of sizes and brands in stock ready to ship. With free shipping on all orders over $75, no matter how big!

Also check out this handy tool that comes in handy for comparing tires sizes. It's a nice simple Tire Conversion Calculator. Helps out a ton.

Here's mine with Goodyear Duratracs 33x12.50x15, my wheels are Dick Cepek DC2 wheels with 3.65 (3-5/8") backspacing. I put a Skyjacker 2.25" BB lift kit to clear the tires. I didn't notice a powerloss, but I have the 3 speed auto/4.0L. My tires actually measure 32x11.50x15.

Glad you mentioned the lift TJNewbie for those 33's...:thumb:

I've got 31/12.5/15's on my '98 and I don't really think they look aggressive at all. Although with chunkier treads like Duratracs it would probably look meaner.

Here's a pic of my Jeep with 31x12.5 tires and no lift, and a pic from the front to show width:

How do you like those Duratracs?

I'm totally impressed with them! The on road performance in dry and wet weather is great, and off road in watery or thick mud, and in sand, it amazes me what my jeep goes through with ease. I don't "air-down" I keep the tires set at 27 psi, and leave 'em there. I've got a video of me driving through a mud hole, but I can't figure out how to post it on here.
