How many windshields have you had?

1000 miles into Wrangler ownership, and I already have 2 cracks. Was hoping to ride out the winter, but I don't need a ticket.

Thank goodness for zero deductible glass coverage.

enjerhoo 12-28-2012 10:38 AM

I went through 5 in 4 years on my KJ

So far, only 1 crack on the JK glass. It happened about a week after I got the Jeep.

Gotta love vertical windshields.

That sounds familiar. We bought the Jeep last Wed.

No chips or cracks yet in the year i've had my 2010 JK. My last truck only had to replace it once and that's because I moved to a state with inspections and needed it to pass. It wasn't that bad though after using it for 7 years and it was already 10 years old before I owned it.

jkmohican 12-28-2012 10:44 AM

Theres a guy who always comes into my store complaning about a new crack or windshield he has to get for his JK. It seems it would be common for a verticle windshield.

Dr. tiki 12-28-2012 10:55 AM

6 Week old 2013... one crack already. It goes to the edge and Safelite says they can't fix it.

Braveheart12JK 12-28-2012 11:06 AM

15 months, 21,000 miles and I've had two windshields replaced. Both got cracks from rocks on the hwy that grew rapidly with in days. :/

mn jk jeeper 12-28-2012 11:36 AM

mine has had 6 some from rocks
others from some other stuff

Hagar The Horrible 12-28-2012 11:39 AM

Last 2 JKs not one crack. Knock on wood!

Timjeep 12-28-2012 12:07 PM

Got mine in June. September, I had something hit the windshield on the passenger side at the very bottom of the glass. I was traveling about 75 mph down I65 in Alabama (Roll Tide!) It started as about a 1/2" crack. Within 5 minutes, it went from the bottom of the windshield to the top. Very sickening watching it grow. I have not replaced yet. I tried to save some money after divorce and child support payments and had a deductible placed on my comprehensive insurance a few years back. That was a mistake.

Since it is on the passenger side, it doesn't bother me. Been spending money on modifications, will replace in a few weeks. It will cost about $250 for a non-Mopar glass. I worry about the sealing of the replacement windshield after reading some of the horror stories on here. Guess I need to get accustomed to replacing the windshield.

Glassified !

On my 4th windshield. 98 TJ Sport.

Rondondo 12-28-2012 03:00 PM

We replaced 2 in 5 years. I consider us to be lucky. When I had a Honda Element, I had to replace the windshield every year.

tomthbomb 12-28-2012 03:10 PM

My 2012 is 13 months old. When I drive west close to sundown my windshield is so pitted it looks like I drove through a sand storm on I-10 in Arizona.

KllrDave 12-28-2012 05:10 PM

Damn...was just about to ask about this. My JK has < 900 mi and already has a few scuffs/small chips.

I hear that!

Glad I live east of the office so don't drive into the sun often but when I do I see the same thing

whiteyj 12-28-2012 05:15 PM

WOW! I bought my YJ in 2005 and still have the same windshield in it....No cracks............Like everything else, I guess there's something to be said for quality of the older models!:D:D

Berns82 12-28-2012 10:32 PM

2 small cracks in mine, glad I'm not the only one. 2011 JKU, both from highway debris (rocks). Here in FL if you have full coverage, they replace it for free!

cphilip 12-29-2012 09:45 AM

Had a chip in mine when I bought it. Didn't see it until after. A passenger noticed it. Small and fixable. Need to take care of it but I got to ask my insurance if they will pay for it. We have no deductible Glass here in SC. But I don't know if that only extends to cracks and replacements or will it cover the patching? Got to find out.

jp2611 12-29-2012 09:46 AM

3 Jeeps almost 20 years and 4 windshields.

Tailgating?

Timjeep 12-29-2012 12:50 PM

Not tailgating. Don't know where it came from. My mother was in the passenger seat. We don't have a clue where it came from. Nearest car was probably 100 yards ahead of us.

Is it true that the flat glass of the Wrangler windshield means replacements are a lot less money than a typical curved windshield?

NC

Some one needs to pass this memo on to Mopar...

Yes, but do realize the cheap Taiwan windshields will not take a hit like the factory or factory approved replacement. Any of the major windshield replacement companies usually can give you a choice of cheap or better quality.

Walker14 01-01-2013 11:45 PM

03 SE in the White Mountains of Arizona. Bought new in 03 and average a new windshield every Spring.
If it ain't broken, it's sandblasted.

TTaM 02-07-2013 01:28 PM

Here we are 1 month later, 1000 miles and another crack. At this rate I'll be getting a new windshield on a monthly basis.

rics1997 02-07-2013 01:32 PM

None on 2010 with 38K. Knock on wood

n3tfury 02-07-2013 01:32 PM

I'm on my 4th and have owned my 2012 JKU since last May.

BigManAndy 02-07-2013 01:38 PM

Lol. I hear ya. On our 3rd since may 2012. Us Arizonans get a nice high 1" rock quotient on the roads. Smack, smack, crack. When I saw you had 4 in a year, figured you had to be in Az. :p
