I am currently thinking of getting a OME 2.5 bl.And running 31" tires.I am afraid the tires would look too small.I would love to run 33", but regearing would not be in the budget any time soon.So if anyone has some pics.It would be appreciated.

wa_troop 12-28-2012 11:18 PM

Don't think you really need to regear until 35s but I'm not for sure i know allot of people who run 33s with stock gears

mdavidc 12-28-2012 11:22 PM

I beleave i have 3.73 gears.my concern is loosing too much hwy performance. With the 33"

wa_troop 12-28-2012 11:28 PM

I'm not to sure about that but i wouldn't go with the body lift I'd do 2 in spacers and a 1in body should be able to stuff 33s my buds jk fits 33s pretty easy with just 2in coil spacers

mdavidc 12-28-2012 11:33 PM

Sorry about my first post i meant to say a suspenion lift, not a body lift.My bad.

Tkoffroad 12-28-2012 11:34 PM

I run 33 with 3.73 gear It works awesome. I have no problem on the highway

mdavidc 12-28-2012 11:44 PM

That is encouraging to hear. Are the the axels strong enough for off roading?

Ya for me at least I have a dana 44 in the rear and dana 30 up front what I have read on this forum and many others is that 35 inch tires are the max for the dana 30 and 35 my brother has a dana 35 in the rear and his work with 33 just fine. but it depends where you offroad I am more in woods with muddy hill climbs and sand when we go to the dunes

mdavidc 12-29-2012 12:05 AM

I beleave i have the 30 and the 35 axels. It reads 3.73 on the plates. If everyone agrees there shouldnt be any performance issues, then im leaning to getting the 2.5 suspension lift from OME, then a 1.25 body lift. After wards i can look into 33" tires.

Tkoffroad 12-29-2012 08:29 AM

That sound great what tires are you thinking

BLK00TJ 12-29-2012 08:35 AM

I have 33s with 3.73 and all I can say is that it is tolerable for now. Not optimal, just tolerable. You'll have to downshift often to maintain highway speed and rock crawling it just sucks. There is too much gear to slow downhill decents too so you'll have to also use brakes which isn't a great thing to have to do if it is slippery.

Tkoffroad 12-29-2012 08:39 AM

I have none of those problems

Then you don't know or you don't push Ur jeep to the point of recognizing the issue.

Tkoffroad 12-29-2012 09:19 AM

Maybe you have an issue with your jeep that mine doesnt I dont want to get in an argument I offroad in slippery muddy hill climbs and have no problem with down hill decent I just put it in 4low and first or second gear and go

Which is exactly why I said you probably don't push Ur jeep to the point of knowing. I am not starting an argument either, just pointing out the simple fact that BLK00TJ referenced rock crawling and steep hill climbs. You referenced mud, and then reply to his post that you don't experience any of the issues he stated. Exactly, you wouldn't because you don't rock crawl, u drive down dirt trails and mud. Which is totally fine and fun, but when someone is giving a description of an issue based on personal experience with the trails they ride and you comment against them when you don't ride the same stuff makes you look silly.

Here are some pics...and a little info and experience.

I have an '04 TJ sport, with 5 speed 3.73 gears, Dana 44, 4.0 I6, OME SL, JKS BL, JKS MML, Zone Quick Disco's, 33" x 12.50" Duratracs on 15" x 8" Cragar soft 8s.

Off road I can rock it pretty good, up hilly down or off camber...when mud gets deep or severe approach or depature angles the factory skid plate picks up a lot of Mud!! It drives great around town and in the snow.

On the highway..even in flat NE IN...5th gear is almost useless...I need to re-gear and TT/ SYE...if I never drove on the highway would never re-gear...if I never went Muddin' I would not TT or SYE.

The JKs will fit bigger tires with less lift don't get confused. For a TJ and 33"s to be able to wheel it you need "right at 4" total lift.

31s on the OME 2.5" lift works great, and does not look out of proportion. I ran that setup for a little over a year while saving up and collecting parts for the regear, LSD's, and 33" tires. Note that when you go to 33's, you will need to install a 1.25" BL and proper bumpstop extensions front and rear. Also, note the OME 2.5" kit comes with 20mm (0.8") bumpstop extensions for the rear, but they aren't enough, you actually need 1.25". You'll also need several other components...the OME kit is basically just shocks and springs.

here's how I set mine up: Unlimited04's LJ Build - JeepForum.com

For what its worth, I run 32" tires on my 3.73 Dana 35 with no issues. I don't know what the extra inch will do, but I plan on finding out sometime in the near future...

gsueagle2424 12-29-2012 12:55 PM

I have a 2.5" RC lift with 33x12.5x15 Duratracs

- I use I-95 every morning for a few miles to get to work. I will say 5th gear works with this setup as long as you don't mind running around 65 mph. If you want to go any faster or have any big hills on your hwy you will have to use 4th gear to maintain speed.

- I don't have a 1.25 BL yet and the tires will rub slightly at full lock

Here is a photo of my setup:

I appreciate everyone's advise.I just want to make sure i do all the homework, and end up with something i am happy with

gsueagle2424 12-29-2012 01:00 PM

Here is a picture of my Jeep before the 33's it had a 2.5" SL and 31's. Not really my taste but some may not mind that setup.

6"SL 1.5"BL 35" tires I need to re gear mine. 35 are a lil to much for my stock axles.
