Will the AC run in cold weather when the heater is set to Floor and dash vents?

Cold up here in Wisconsin this time of year and I like the heat in my Jeep to blow out of the dash vents and floor vents at the same time. Unfortunatly that setting on the selector has the snowflake next to it indicating that the A/C will run.

Anybody know if the A/C compressor will still run if the selector is set to the Dash/floor position and the temp is set to Hot? Is there a temp sensor that will keep the compressor from running?

Thanks!

Yes the a/c compressor runs in any of the settings that have the snowflake. However, that is a good thing since the a/c compressor's job in those settings is to dehumidify the air which speeds up defrosting/clearing the windows considerably. Let the a/c compressor run, it really helps.

I agree 100% with your dehumidify/defrost statement in what is "cold" weather to the rest of the country. (i.e 30-40-50 degrees)

Yesterday morning we had no temprature. It was 0.

I just find it hard to justify that running the AC in that kind of temp is 1. effective 2. good for the system.

The defrost function goes through the AC system. If you just run the heater, It's just the heater, if you run defrost you'll notice the AC compressor will cycle.:thumb:

Why wouldn't it be good for the system? When you have it on defrost the compressor is on and that setting is meant for the winter. The only difference between defrost and having the a/c on is which vents air comes out of. Running the a/c or defrost in the winter also keeps the compressor lubricated and the system free of moisture.

I plan on adding a simple on off switch for the AC so I can use the vents I want, and the ac that I want.
