True Track for 08 JK Wrangler

Hi , have question about eaton True Track for rear on 08 JK .. does Eaton make a true trac that will fit dana 44 with 3.73 gears that does not require drilling the ring gear bolt holes i have part 913A589 and the installer says bolts wont fit .. So do i have wrong part ? or do i need to find a machine shop to make the holes the right size?

most lockers need to be drilled for the JK, I dont understand why companies that make jk specific parts still need them to be drilled to fit.

however if you call any of these companies or venders that sell them, they will all tell you to just drill it yourself, so it doesnt need to be ultra high tolerance.

heard back from eaton today .. they said yes i have to have the true track drilled .. blamed it on Dana for changing size of the ring gear bolts said they couldnt keep up.. woulda been nice if they had put some * 's by the things saying " drilling required" but o well .. we live and learn ; does anyone know if they got the ring gear sizes right for the ones that go on the front of an 08 JK .. or does it need to be drilled to fit as well ??

JK TrueTrac

I just ran into this issue with 2013 Sahara with 3.21 gears. Wanted to upgrade to truetrac in the rear. I ordered 913A589 from Drivetrain America. Their catalogue shows it as fitting my Jeep. Learned about the bolt dia change after my JK was in the shop and torn down. (Ouch!) The TrueTrac is hardened steel. A local machine shop was unable to redrill the holes without purchasing some "special tool" (carbide bit, I think) and gave an estimate of "over $100". Drivetrain America said this was also the first time they had run into this issue. They worked hard to make good - took another unit off the shelf, had it redrilled locally and supposedly it's in the mail. They have also updated their website to reflect this info. I was also told that some aftermarket ring gears have two sets of bolt holes, so should work.
Sorry, I don't know about the front, but would be interested to see what you find out.

Update on the TrueTrac for 2013 JK. It took a whole week, but Drivetrain America sent me a replacement unit with a second set of holes. Now installed and running smoothly. Awaiting that first good snow....

I came across this thread after I ordered a Truetrac from Quadratec. I was prepared to have my buddy at the local machine shop drill it out. But to my surprise, it came with both sets of holes. Looks like the newer stock already comes drilled for both bolt sizes.
