Hey guys, my brother and I have recently purchased an 85 cj7 as a dedicated farm toy. We are having some idling problems (it stalls out unless you keep the rpms up a little) so it needs a new carb we think! I need some advice on a good replacement!! were also having a little problem with turning right, lol turns left fine but barely turns right. i think the guy before us didnt swap out a part that needs dropped down when he got it lifted. anyone heard of this?

I have a 84 cj7 that Ive owned since new. The carter carb. was junk from day one. Under 1000 rpms it would stall. I took it to the dealer a couple of times and they adjusted the idle which did absolutley nothing. I rebuilt it a couple of times and it didnt fix it. I found out later that its a poor design on the carb. I did find a repair online for it but never tried it. I put the mopar fuel injection on it.

The carb is a Carter BBD.

You need to search on two fixes for this carb:

Nutter Bypass, that will eliminate a portion of the computer control for the carb,
and
Drilling out the BBD idle tubes.
These tubes are too small and clog easily. There is a method telling you how to drill them out for improved idle performance.

Info on the Nutter can be found here:
