Sick of Government?

I'm not here to tell you you should be a republican, democrat, libertarian etc. What I do want from our government is freedom from corruption. That starts with our representatives. Lobbyists and reps and senators are all way too "tight" and this needs to be changed. I've started a petition to our government to create term limits for Congress. If this is not your deal, no biggie, just ignore this and I am sorry for wasting your time. If this is something you think is a good idea, click on the link and sign the petition. After 25K signatures, the government has to respond. I'm not a political activist or anything more than a teacher who loves to wheel and wants a fair government FOR THE PEOPLE. Thank you for your time.

I sure hope you are a social media Guru. You have a long way to go in a short time. Good luck though.
It's ironic to. This morning I saw a post on here about a bill to remove the Presidential term limits.

corey2491 01-05-2013 08:39 PM

I know. If it doesn't get there, so be it. Its a great lesson to my kids and students about trying to fix problems from within. We all have a voice, its up to us to use it. At 150 signatures, it goes national and is available for anyone to see without me promoting it. Thanks for looking!

While I appreciate your approach to ownership of Democratic process, I submit the following.

These lobbyists that have a choke hold have it for a simple reason: Money. The money that funnels into politics corrupts the entire system. Otherwise seemingly decent people are easily swayed to the benifits of Jon Boehners famous handing out tobacco co checks on the house floor, in session, to use an example. With the Citizens United decision on the books, no term limits could change a thing. Money must be removed from politics to see any change.

You know Isreal held fund raisers for Romney, giving millions illegally in foreign funds? Obama did the same in Europe. These actions made both legally inelidgable to be president. Money has to leave politics.

corey2491 01-05-2013 11:12 PM

I wish it was possible. I told my students (8th grade US History) that I would run in 2016 if they could raise 50 million for the campaign. They couldn't believe thats what it cost to run for president. I then informed them that 50mil would get my name on the ballot in about 5 states.....

Yes I am sick of govt. Sick of the way they bicker like little kids, sick of the entitlement programs that just keep paying people not to work, & sick of my tax money going overseas to "help" people who would sooner see us dead than anything. I'm sick of seeing bills that to go for voting laden with pork. The recent bill for hurricane Sandy was full of pork, adding up to approximately half the total of the bill. It seems people in other countries get aid faster than our own people!

I'm sick of people in congress who will live on our dime for the rest of their lives, living comfortably, knowing they will never have to depend on social security or Medicare. I believe that's the reason they don't care what happens. Why would they?

If I had my way, NONE of them in congress would get a paycheck until they figure out how to work together to accomplish GOOD for this country. If I "worked" like they do, I wouldn't have a job.

I really don't have anything to add to the thread, because you pretty much took care of everything. :thumb:

corey2491 01-06-2013 09:54 AM

I agree whole heartedly, thats why I started this petition. End the long political careers and bring the government back to where it began. Where people served and then went back to theri jobs and didn't live off of the public for the rest of their lives.

While you certainly are not wrong, this seems like a bit of a half list to me.

Taxes are "The Cost of Society". Could you imagine the cost of an ignorant, unskilled, uneducated, unemployed neighbor? Should we not all give a little to those who need it, if only in order to further protect what is ours? Could you imagine the cost of your boy in school with a child who is not afforded health care? Is it better fund the Nation of Israel, or Saudi Arabia, when the end result will be one of demonization of the US in many foreign nations? Most people that would rather see us dead feel so because we gave the guns, tanks, boolits, bombs, and aeroplanes to the nation that killed their families or displaced them. Some, like OBL and his followers, saw those actions as an ideological invasion of their Holy Land.

Social issues need be addressed. IMO, this is a responsibility of the State, though.
Dabbling in foreign affairs is like being pregnant - you can't just be a little bit involved. You are, or you are not.

Agreed. They problem is the money we allow corporations to speak freely with. When Exxon can give a 100,000,000$ in an election it will influence those who take it. We, as voters, are apparently too stupid to see it - NY continued to elect Charlie Rangal despite multiple ethics violations over many years. Kicking people like him out of office would be great, but not at the expense of booting Dr Paul as well.

As I often say, the end does not justify the means.

As for congressional pay, seeing how it is part time and all, they should make NO MORE than an average American - 39,000$ anually. But then those donations become REAL important, so that must go first. I would also support an amendment identifying lobbying as an act of treason by officials - so that people like Boehner would go to jail for a very long time for doing things like handing out industry checks on the House floor. Send 10 of em to Federal prison on 45 year sentences, it will be an effective crime deterant.

Any real and binding change also needs to address our corporate sponsored SCOTUS.

I'm disappointed in all of you. US politics is no place for logic or rationale. Do you know how much money and effort goes into having us argue over Fox News v CNN? How liberals are socialist and conservatives are racist? That's the important stuff we should be discussing. Not topics that actually matter and would change our country. So to avoid more embarrassment of yourself lets change this thread into something about all liberals wanting to give away free unlimited abortions instead of nonsense like practical resolutions to big picture problems. It's what our all knowing elected officials want.

Conservatives want to pass a law legalizing hunting puppies with war hammers! Brraahh barga barga barga barga! It is Foxs fault!

And

Liberals want to pass a law making us Jeepers use wooden tires! Brraahh barga barga barga barga! It is MSNBCs fault!

Gotta be honest. Hunting with a war hammer sounds kinda fun. I bet going after wild pig with one would be a fun hunt. Now I'm going to Google 'war hammer'

Edit* just looked up war hammer. Holy hell are people violent. 1) it shows guns are irrelevant when it comes to murder 2) I'd rather be shot than bludgeoned with a freaking war hammer. The bastards in medieval times might be the best at gruesome killings. They just made sh!t up that sounded painful and rolled with it.

I live in MA, probably the most liberal state in the country. I feel that the liberals just want to ban everything and anything and take money away from hard working people. Every liberal i talk to never has an actual answer to anything, just some made up crap. Hell, my town just banned bottled water because it is bad. Im all for starting a group to not buy it, but dont tell me how to live. People finally stopped drinking soda and gatorade so lets not let them buy water instead. I can not believe that Scott Brown did not get elected and lost to the worst person for the job. GOP al the way

Guess ya missed the whole point............

Are you aware John McCain, Orrin Hatch, Mitch McConnell and every other republican Senator, except 2, voted for the 94 AWB? 3 Democrats voted against it.

Blanket statements are very similar to racism, and both show an unwillingness to hold a conversation about actual solutions.

Not the way I see it. You are responsible to purchase items, or you need to be told what to buy. Not both.

Just like we need smaller government, or we need the govt in our bedrooms. We do not need a small govt in our bedroom.

Agreed on the lack of sensible people.

A frozen bottle of water can kill you if applied to the body at the correct spot and enough force. Also, drinking an excessive amount of water can create an electrolyte imbalance that can cause extreme medical issues and possibly lead to death. I know these are two extremes but they can occur.

anything can kill you if used to do so. but there is no way that drinking a bottle of water will do anything other than hydrate

Cars can also kill people. Would that be a better example?

So..... guns just go off? They aren't being "used to do so"? Used on a target, guns do nothing but punch holes.

I left all mine loaded this morning, sitting out on the bed. It is OK, someone is always at my house, so they are secure. My experiment is to see how many go out and assault people today, but I left em secure, so they can't be USED to do so. They gotta be bad by they selves. =)

Bets on the results?

if you think about it, just about everything can kill someone. but you dont see everything being banned because there is a chance it could kill someone. im talking more about the water here

I know you were talking about the water. But in the same breath you said that you understand assault rifles being banned. I'm not sure how you were expecting people to respond to one and not the other.

It's a stance on environmental cleanliness. Some people see it as something just as (or maybe more) important than something like gun control. It sucks if it affects you, but I don't see it as anything more than a nuisance, really. Unless your tap water is unhealthy to drink, getting a refillable water bottle isn't a big deal.

youre right it is a nuisance. me saying i understand assult rifles being banned was because some else was talking about that. the whole point was reducing the carbon footprint but just think, now people have to drive farther in cars to go buy it. its just annoying that we banned water. but if you are responsible with your empty bottle (recycle) there is less of an impact.

BlueRidgeYJ 01-08-2013 08:23 PM

We all know your point is the water. You are missing the entire counter and larger point:

You say it is obsurd to have a city ordinance about permissable containers, but acceptable to have the Federal govt prohibit, limit, or register firearm ownership. One of these is allowed by the Constitution, the other is not. You can move, with your guns, to a city that doesn't have ordinances on permissable beverage containers. No papers required - The American Experiment, at its finest. If enough towns say no blister bottles, the State says no blister bottles. Enough States, we make it a federal thing - that's the idea, anyway.

All due respect, do you see the doublespeak, and how it is a backwards concept?

The town I grew up in has a few ordinances:
No farm animals, including chickens, even if used as pets - a man blew his house up because it was getting foreclosed after a years long legal fight to keep chickens (not roosters). The city council did not budge.
No alcoholic drink specials, ever. (happy hour, two for tuesday, margarita wed, etc)
All restaraunts with a liquor license must have 60% food sales, minimum.
Any dance clubs must not have any nudity, nor permit dancers within 3' of any patrons, nor may they sell alcohol or food.
You cannot have more than 3 tennis balls in your yard at any time.
You may not have more than 2 cars parked outside your home, all of which must be registered and taged, in running condition, and be parked on concrete or grade 8 gravel in an enclosed box. Parking on your own grass is a violation.
You may not leave trash cans out for more than 18 hours.
And plenty more stupid, silly, ordinances.

So I MOVED. ;)
