It's best to use a winch that is rated for twice your vehicle wieght or larger. With jeeps a 8000lb or bigger is prefered. I dont know anything about the winch you gave a link to or ever heard of that brand that is on the label of it.
Such winches could be VERY hard to get parts for if possible at all to get parts for.

A big question for you is how often would you intend to use the winch? 2 or 3 times a year or maybe every weekend?

That's another winch imported from China who is flooding the US market with similar winches and personally, I won't touch a Chinese-built winch. There are plenty of US brands around I'd trust a whole lot more including Warn, Tabor, Ramsey, and a couple of the Superwinch models. Warn will be the best and most expensive but the others are all less expensive. Tabor is actually made by Warn and has similar quality, it primarily has a reduced cost due to its one year warranty vs. the Warn's lifetime warranty. If I wasn't already running a Warn, I'd run a Tabor without a second thought about its quality. :)

i have a 200$ 12000 lbs china winch and some buddies have that winch too. itīs louder and slower than an expensive warn. but it does its job and always works and there never was a problem. one of my budies has a forestry company and there he has 2 of these winches on all of his 12 pickups. and he never had any problem for over 5 years now and he uses these winches for many hours nearly every day.

some weeks ago we compared a friends warn 9.5 ti with my china winch. with normal load his warn was about 50% faster. but when we tried to winch 3 XJs in a row his winch failed, it only did this with a snatch block. my winch did it without any problems.

if you want a fast winch and you have the money, buy a warn. if you have some more time to recover your jeep, a china winch does the job like any other winch. and that for less money.

btw. open a US brand winch and youīll see, that itīs only assembled in the US. most of the parts come from other countries (the motor in my friends warn comes from brasil, the electrical parts from china, and so on).

IMO warns lifetime guarantee is a joke.
some buddies had problems in the first 1-2 years and warn always said that the winch looks "abused" and that isnīt covered by the guarantee.
but how should they use their winch? a used winch never looks like itīs new..

Yep, Warn got to be the oldest and largest manufacturer of winches with the largest world-wide marketshare of winches intended for offroading and they got that way because they burn up after winching 3 vehicles and they don't honor their warranty. Right, whatever you say Nicolas. :rolleyes:

nicolas-eric 08-28-2008 04:46 PM

I think you misunderstood me.

We tried to winch 3 XJs at the same time to see how the winches work with very much load. And there the 9.5 ti needed a snatch block and m winch did it.

The European Warn importer seems to handle the "lifetime" warranty on that way. Whenever a winch looks used they say that the probem was caused by abuse.
And thatīs why so many people over here buy cheap china winches. They also work and the warranty is the same. And they cost only 1/5 -1/10 of a warn.

Perhaps the Warn warranty is better in the US. But not over here.

nicholas, you are comparing a 12k chinese winch to a 9.5k Warn, you are comparing apples to oranges, yeah they are both fruit, but one is easier to eat while one is sweeter and tastes better, ok Im not really sure where i am going with this... but you have to compare the same size winches.

4point 08-28-2008 06:35 PM

.................... and why would you exceed the rating (3 XJ's) of winch to test it? You guys must have too much money.

We compared both winches because many peopls said that a Warn is always better than a cheap winch and that a 8k or 9k Warn can pull more than a 12k china winch.
After the test we know that this is wrong.

IMO thatīs not comparing apples with oranges. We compared a 200$ winch with a 1200$ winch. And we found out that the 6 times cheapoer winch is only slower and louder.

@4point:
We winched 3 XJs because we wanted to test the winches under load. Ad that was the easiest way for us in a friends garden with only a very small hill.

Jerry Bransford 08-28-2008 07:44 PM

Sounds like a highly scientific test performed under controlled conditions... NOT. More like Bubba and his buddies saying "here hold my beer and watch this!". :rolleyes:

Jrzymilitia 08-28-2008 08:36 PM

I have a nice brand new warn winch..And I NEVER USE IT!! I just get more thrill of trying to get pulled out rather then watching a winch do it lol...Just use straps

slippy 08-28-2008 08:50 PM

someone needs to put a warn winch in the front and a china winch in the back it get to the bottum of this pronto

ya know joking aside, svtperformance is a mustang site, that i belong to even tho i dont have my cobra anymore. Well i belive that someone on there actually contacted mythbusters that had something to do with a mustang, of a part or somthing on those lines and it was actually tested on one of the shows, they would be cool if a admin or someone contacted them about the american made winches opposed to a the foreign made ones. but that might sound funny IDK lol

@jerry:

i never said that we made a scientific test. we only made the same things with 2 different (200$ vs. 1200$) winches. thatīsīall.

I couldn't make it through the entire episode of smash lab that I tried to watch. What a lame show, it just doesn't work.

GrnTJ 08-29-2008 04:43 PM

Mythbusters is worlds apart from smash lab. So much better. Ok, that aside, who has ever said that a 12K china winch has a weaker pull than a 9K warn? A winch rated at a certain line pull is rated at that for a certain reason. They cant claim a number if it doesnt pull that. They are slower but I have never heard anyone claim a 9K warn can pull harder than a cheaper foreign 12K winch. If you are going to compare 9K winches than make sure the american made and china made winches are both 9K and respectively for the 12K as well. Cost is obvious, the china will always be cheaper. So compare why those prices are so much different. To some people (myself included) line speed, american construction, a solid name in winches, etc. is worth paying the extra $$ for. But it all boils down to personal opinion.
