Reverse braking problems
I have purchased a 1999 Wrangler sport 4.0L for my wife wich replaced a Chevey S10 extended cab truck.
We tow a four winns fling jet boat that weighs about 1000 LBS.
The wrangler tows it great as we are 10 minutes from the lake but upon backing down the ramp the front tires lock up & start to skid causing loss of control as you can imagin.
I have replaced all the pads, drums & rotors as they needed it & I tought this would fix the problem but it didn't.
I noticed that using Nutrual instead of reverse helps alot.
So I guess it can be a a high iddle problem also.
I have a couple questions
1. The Idle is at 900 is this high or not ?
2. I thought this Jeep has ABS as it has the light & it's on the window sticker build sheet, so do I have a ABS problem?
3. I read that the master cylinder adjusts the rear breaking, so could it be a master cylinder problem?
I can rebuild most anything & have all the tools needed to work on Trucks, cars, & Cycles and boats but I'm new to the Jeep wranglers fixs & problems but I'm sure with time I'll learn the Qurks!

Try 4Lo any time you're on the launching ramp. I've launched countless boats and jetskis and whenever I was launching using a 4x4 Jeep, I always used 4Lo which gave me a lot better control and a slower speed on ramps that are usually slick from moss, algae, etc.
To see if you have ABS, there should "tone ring" at the axle shaft: (cv style shaft but shows tone ring on endn) If you don't have one then no abs.
When you did the brake job did how did the calipers look? and thing sticking with them.
Is it in 4wd or 2wd when this happens?
The calipers were in great shape everything moved great.
I was in 2 wheel drive upon launching & the ramp is short & not really steep so I really never need 4 wheel to pull out but as usual the ram was wet & slick.
I'll have to look at the axles to see about the ABS.
Well no ABS as I checked the sticker & also the axle so chalk that one up to asuming :)
After the brake job I always test drive & do several reverse stops to insure proper rear brake adjustment & even then the fronts would lockup & I really didn't hear the backs clicking for adjustment but the ebrake is 2 to 3 clicks up & before I didn't really have an ebrake.
What about the idle at 900, as it seems to lunge upon shifting to drive or reverse?
900 rpm seems about in the range as I recall.
