New body tub?

Hey kind of a crazy question, but bare with me. Would it be possible to take a aluminum tub of a Toyota Fj40 and putting it one a Jeep wrangler. I looked at the dimensions and they look pretty close. What problems would you run into?

UnlimitedLJ04 01-12-2013 11:21 AM

they do make aluminum jeep tubs you know....

in direct response to your question....anything is possible with enough money, the proper tools and the right skills. Figure it out yourself and document it in a build thread.

Be cheaper and easier to buy one then.

Mounting won't line up, need to match up two incompatable wiring harnesses. Make the gauges work. How does the steering gear line up, foor pedals, shifter. Is the gas fill evem close.

A fully restored Toyota Fj40 runs for about $22,000

Too many unforeseen issues, and in the end it would be a basketcase. It would be easier, more practical, and less expensive to just trade the Jeep for an FJ.

Good luck finding a decent FJ for the price of a TJ.

IndyJeepMan 01-12-2013 11:42 AM

X2 thats what I'm saying

TJDave 01-12-2013 11:47 AM

I like bacon.:)

My suggestion is: Go get some bacon, have some breakfast, then go out and enjoy your TJ.

Don't know if you know this but an FJ isn't something your going to drive like your TJ. They don't stop, They ride like tanks, they get worse mileage then a Jeep, they are very unsafe, they only have 2-60 air conditioning and a Fj40 is going to have a lot more problems then a TJ.

I actually looked for an FJ before I bought my TJ.The TJ is a much better vehicle overall. I wouldn't own an FJ unless it's something I drove around town on the weekends to show it off.

Yes.

DevilDogDoc 01-12-2013 03:03 PM

Years ago I had a CJ5 on spring packs four inches thick. Rode like a tank, zero travel nothing electrical worked except what I had rewired. I went from that 73 to a 74 FJ 40 and the difference was night and day. Little details like front disc brakes and a light to tell you the parking brake was on. Little things but still a whole different animal. I really regret getting rid of the FJ but fresh out the Navy, didn't know what I had. Now FJ to TJ, another story altogether.

Trevor C 98tj 01-12-2013 03:17 PM

Are you being serious about this tj to fj conversion?

DevilDogDoc 01-12-2013 03:20 PM

Of course he is serious, have you missed all his other threads?

Yeah I've read them all.... top to bottom laughing my ash off, seems legit.

BLK00TJ 01-12-2013 09:47 PM

If you do this swap, do the build thread on an FJ40 forum.

thanks

Why don't you sell the TJ and start looking for an FJ?

Thats what I'm thinking, but a Fj in decent condition is really expensive. My Tj is only worth $13,500. A Fj is usually from the $18,000-20,000 range

tkfx 01-13-2013 12:50 AM

What does an FJ have that a TJ doesnt have that makes you want to trade in your TJ for a FJ?
