Santa Clarita Run 19 Jan

Well it's that time again to do another run in Santa Clarita.
This time I want to start at Drinkwater Flats and do a loop to Rowher Flats and back. Some of you can break off at Rowher if you don't want to do the entire loop. This trail is FS Black Diamond in spots but mostly moderate to easy. There are a couple really good hill ascents and descents mixed throughout and killer views of the Santa Clarita Valley.

This is a great run to break in that new rig or to just get out of doing chores around the house. :whistling:..We've had great turnouts at the last two runs and I expect we will see a lot on this run too. Bring your family and friends and pack a lunch.

Meeting area (Drinkwater Flats) 34.526986,-118.532279

Meeting Time: 1000

Turn around point (Rowher Flats) 34.526345,-118.383105

Recommended items to have:

1) M/T tires
2) tow points Front and Rear
3) CB Radio

C/B Channel 10

3) Zombie friend
4) Cashcow1608

crittert 01-13-2013 01:19 PM

Added you to the list!

cashcow1608 01-13-2013 04:52 PM

Im in for this one.

crittert 01-13-2013 04:58 PM

Cool..I mean after all it is your backyard :)

crittert 01-13-2013 06:27 PM

I might also explore Ruby Canyon afterwards. It's a little farther up the road and it crosses over to Lake Hughes Road according to the map. I want to know if I can use this route to eventually go from Rowher to Gorman on a future trip..

Yeahbro 01-13-2013 06:45 PM

Do you guys think a mostly stock yj on 31's can make this trip?

I think you'll be fine:thumb:. There's always a strap or a winch available if you need it. But you should be fine..I'll put you down :punk:

Ohh, this could be fun....put me down as etched in sand on that one.

crittert 01-13-2013 07:24 PM

Yeah can you imagine an over-nighter from Rowher to Miller then stay the night at the top of Miller. That would be epic! I can't wait till Miller is open again

Tanks 01-13-2013 07:28 PM

I am bummed. I'm out of town. :-(

But a mostly stock yj will make it. I made it no problem with airing down and a sway bar disconnect.

Yes, I can't wait to try the overnight trip to Gorman!
It will be fantastic!!

We can do that run this summer when it's 100+ degrees out here in the desert.

Sorry to hear that Ryan. One of these days we'll link up and pre run the over night trip to Miller. I want to be sure there aren't any locked gates out there.

Most definitely Rob. I'm thinking late Spring even.

I gotta get my butt to Calico too. I might go to the meet n greet in March..

The Los Pinos NF site says Miller will reopen in May. It opened early last year, so we'll see.

And yeah, Calico!!!

cashcow1608 01-13-2013 10:57 PM

I cant pass up a run in my own backyard. I went to Calico yesterday and had a great time but the drive was 2 hours each way. Its kinda nice when the trailhead is only 10 minutes from my house.

crittert 01-14-2013 08:48 PM

Bumpity bump

Yeahbro 01-15-2013 12:54 PM

I'm going to try to make it. I have to find somebody to watch my 1 year old. He is a little to young for the cold trail ride in a topless jeep!

cashcow1608 01-17-2013 11:22 AM

Im surprised this threads been so quiet. Should be great weather this weekend. Im looking forward to this run.

yomondo 01-17-2013 11:37 AM

I'm going to have to miss this run again, but I want to get in on it one of these days.

comptekcs 01-18-2013 03:03 AM

Put me down as a maybe - if I do come it would be from Drinkwater to that spot on B. Canyon where we did the group pic last run.

crittert 01-18-2013 03:51 PM

Added..

DaK 01-18-2013 04:02 PM

Nice warm up for your Sunday run. ;-)

natepilla 01-18-2013 04:31 PM

Hey guys I am interested in doin this run but I am thinkin that I would want to do some camping and make it a weekend trip. Anyone have the same plans? Also are there any pass or decal requirements for this trail? I've never been on this trail before...

I am trying to do a run on Sunday at nightmare gulch so I can't camp this weekend

I am planning to do a weekend trip really soon. We'll start at Rowher Flats and end at Gorman. Sawmill campground is right in the middle and a very good spot to hole up for the night. We could even do some fishing along the way if there was interest.

I'll put you as a maybe on the first post. And no there are no pass requirements unless you plan on parking there.

crittert 01-19-2013 04:35 PM

Sorry Ron didnt see your message in time. We'll have to hook up on the next one. It was a blast today. Only had 2 casualties. 1x dead battery and 1x differential. With a little strap and buddy push we got everybody out. I got to go 2 wheeling for the first time! I cant wait to see the pics from this run. Thanks for coming everybody and stay tuned for the next one. It will most likely be an overnighter!
