so i just got off work and started the my jeep and i noticed that the engine light came on i just had went on a trip where i got really dusty and some mud and its about due for an oil change. i am taking it in tomorrow to my work so they can do the oil change im hoping that will fix it. i just thought that i would write to see if any of you had any more ideas on what it could be

did you check the error code?

orange05tj 09-03-2008 08:30 PM

mine light came on so I pulled over, opened the hood, checked the engine. Yup, it was still there. Shut the hood and drove away.

tough_jeep89 09-03-2008 09:23 PM

im taking it in to check the code tomorrow

Most of the time it is emission related, did you fill your gas tank in the last day or so? Is the gas cap on tight? Thus, you should be okay to drive it for a while, certainly get it checked but I would not worry to much about it if everything seems to be running and working correctly.

You really only worry if the CEL light starts flashing, if it does that pull over and shut it off for a tow truck. Invest in a decent code reader and clearer, if you had one you would not be worried and be on here posting the question.:D

They are well worth the $80-100 bucks...

Agreed, I bought a code reader a year or so ago and honestly I'm glad I did. I may have only used it a couple times between my wife's jeep and mine, but as far as I'm concerned it has paid for itself already. No screwing around trying to get to Auto Zone while it's still open and waiting for the guy to come out and do it for you. But that is an option as well, I think they do it for free.

Getting the oil changed won't get the engine light to turn off, at least I find that extrermely unlikely. It's going to be a bad sensor or something.

im not the one who is worried it is my wife. i told her that i would take it in and get it checked out i dont think that there is nething wrong. but its no big deal i work at a car dealership so i can have ne tech take a look. and its about due for a oil change

tough_jeep89 09-04-2008 11:39 AM

just to let all of you know that it was my o2 sensor that is slow. and thats what was throwing the code

Oxegan Sensor, or Dirty fuel filter. Start there!:flipoff:

hdsavage25 09-04-2008 06:58 PM

my engine light came on as well, a day after I went through a bunch of mud and puddles and etc.. checked it out, and it was emmisions related. They said it is eaither catalytic converter, or oxygen sensor. So, it may be one o the two there. You could go by your local auto zone, or advanced auto parts, and they will check it out for you for free. Just my .02
