What is that rattle in the passenger B pillar?

...at least that's where I think it's coming from. I can only hear it on the highway and since I drive alone most of the time, I can't diagnose it.

Anyone else?

Rattle

Probably the same rattle that I had in the drivers side B Piller. I don't fully understand the exact reason for the Rattle, but it is related to the seat belt. I changed the position of the shoulder strap roller, and it seemed to go away.

My does the same thing. It's only when I hit a bump. Driver's side for mine.

I had that on my 2011. Take a round or two of electrical tape around the post that the door latches on to. It stops, it's stupid but the rattle is gone.

Do you have a hard or soft top? I have a soft top and I noticed that the knob above the roll bar, to my left, needed tightening. So maybe the knob above the passenger side needs the same tightening?

kappaknight 01-15-2013 11:18 PM

I have a soft top. Will have to try all of the above remedies. :)

I have a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side rear door (Unlimited) at the top (C pillar?). Just started a day ago. Will try the electrical tape to see if that's where it's coming from, but would adjusting the door close fix it in that case? I don't want tape being the final solution, lol.

don't adjust the door. move the loop on the body

I think it's the electrical plug that you disconnect to remove your rear door I'm going to slip a piece of swimming pool noodle around it & see if it stops

That rattle is the seatbelt slapping the b-pillar in the wind. It's very loud and disconcerting. Go to your local Trashmart (Walmart) and get one of those velcro'd seatbelt pads. fasten it loosely to the STRAIGHT part of the seatbelt (not the shoulder or lap belts) where it retracts into the "body" of the vehicle. Make sure to do this at the BOTTOM of the seatbelt, right where it comes out of the "body" of the vehicle.

I can't remember the brand, but they are very cheap and the logo is in blue. I think they're around five dollars. I can send you pics in the morning when I officially wake up out of bed. :thumb:

Watching this thread since I've had the exact same issue on mine since about 2 weeks after purchase. Mine is not the seat belt in the wind since I can only hear it with the top on, windows closed, at highway speed.

Maybe it's something to do with the position of the seatbelt...something inside the body of the vehicle or something? Possibly a tensioner issue that's inside the body?

Yeah, I've wondered that. I've tried messing around with the seatbelt position and the B pillar trim, but didn't have too much luck. I haven't noticed it as much since the Duratracs, so maybe they fixed it?

It doesn't look overly difficult to remove the trim. Maybe there's a way you can pry off the trim, then get someone to ride with you and see what's happening. In reality, there's probably nothing wrong, but there are parts in there that are rattling against each other based on that setting your seatbelt is set to. Maybe there's a way to get in there and maybe wrap a piece of electrical tape or something around the areas that are rattling, provided the electrical tape wouldn't interfere with the seatbelt's operation?

I had this same exact issue, went to the dealership to see what is was. While waiting for a service writer a tech I know walks in from the shop and asks what I'm doing there, so I explain...he says I'll be right back I know what it is. He comes back out with a tube of grease the size of a chap stick tube, we walk out to my jeep, he gives the door latch a good coating of it, makes sure its in all area's of the latch and says there ya go. Hasn't rattled since. He says several model years back, jeep had this door latch issue, and now they have it again...not on all though! It's a special grease, I doubt just any off the shelf grease will work.

That's exactly what is happening to me.

Mine only does it when when I'm topless on my 07. Looks like the wind is causing the seatbelt to rattle and hit the plastic cover. If I pull on the seatbelt towards me, the rattle goes away. Guess I'll keep searching to see if anybody else has had it happen.

You mean one of these?

My rattle is coming from above the passenger side B-pillar. I can hear it with the soft top up, at speed, on a slightly bumpy road. I believe it is the soft top support assembly near where the bracket clips the top to the body. I say this because if I reach up and hold the soft top support bar with my hand, the rattle goes away. I've inspected the parts, and compared to the driver side, but I can't tell what's causing it.

Rattleing problem fixed. Went to Walmart and bought seat-belt shoulder padding.

Mine is in the seat belt

I have a rattle in my '11 that I'm pretty sure is the gas filler neck. I've noticed there is about 3/4" of travel in the neck opening and rubber gasket doesn't hold very tight.

BacaraJKU 08-05-2013 11:49 AM

I have the rattle on both pass and driver side. After reading several threads on this forum about it, its the door striker. I don't want to go the route of putting grease all over it as it will undoubtedly end up on my pants/shirt when getting in. I'm going to ask dealer if they can replace it and hope it doesn't come back.

BTW, mine always happens over a speed bump, etc. Nothing to do with wind or speed.

mbrooks1966 06-03-2014 02:53 PM

BTW - did this fix your issue? I have the same sound on my '14.
