Ocotillo Wells poker run

1/26 4wheel parts is putting on a poker run with free lunch to those who register for this run. The poker run starts at 10:00am and lunch to follow with giveaways and door prizes. I am in no way affiliated with 4wheel parts. All though I'd like to get a bunch of us together and roll out there. You will need to call Jordan Rickman @ 4wheel parts to register for this event before 1/22 so theyll have food for you and your guests, 951-491-0923,With that being said here's the plan:

Meet in Temecula at 7:00am at the arco gas station off the 15 at the 79S/Temecula Prkwy exit. (Exit for pachanga casino) Depart at 7:30amsharp arriving at 9:30am aprox (hoping no problems on the drive there)

The address we will finally arrive at is:
2189 hwy 78
Ocotillo Wells, Ca

This will be the first run I'll head, but I'm sure we'll make it and have a great time. We'll be on cb channel 4. My cell number 951-779-6296 in case you have any questions.

87octane 01-15-2013 07:25 AM

Different kind of run that sounds fun. I'm in! I will register today.

87octane 01-15-2013 07:36 AM

I have done poker runs on a horse and on a quad this will be a first for my Jeep. Hopefully I can win something this time. LOL

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 09:19 AM

Sounds like a good time. I've never wheeled out there before. Been a few times on SXS and bikes. Plus it's FREE and FREE food. Lol

Kota7x 01-15-2013 11:20 AM

I'm interested. Im going to see if I will be out there.

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 11:26 AM

Hopefully a good hand and free offroad accessories to add to the free list. Probably Smitty or Pro Comp items but I am not one to look the gift horse in the mouth.

Poker run generally has 5 different destinations. When you arrive at a destination they give you a playing card which they keep track of. At the end who ever has the best hand of poker wins a prize.

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 12:23 PM

And in between stops to get your card we wheel. Plus we as a group can wheel after if someone knows the area if your up for it

Ahh....prizes....
I wish they'd have a list of prizes. For a 7am departure they have to be really good.. :D

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 12:36 PM

I agree. Jordan at 4 wheel said the more people that reg they'd be able to get better prizes from the vendors. It'll be fun. Hope you guys can make it

suicideking 01-15-2013 12:42 PM

Sounds fun, but I can't make it.

I'll be in Vegas that weekend doing my own Poker run... :D

Most of the time out there it is the best and worst hand split. Kind of like a game of Hi Lo. Always a fun time in the past but is generally more than a one day trip, two at the least.

Considering the drive I can see how 2 days would be better. But for me it's worth the drive to wheel.

We partake in the 4wheel parts Customer appreciation day in Hungry valley every year and these guys at 4wheel parts give away a lot of stuff. not sure if this run will have the same impact, but if you have the day open i and like wheeling i dont see what it would hurt to check it out, i wish they would have done this over near the 4x4 training/obstacle course, that would have made a lot more sense to me.

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 05:51 PM

I've got to change the times... Well have to leave the meeting spot by 7 to be there by 9 now. I guess their flyer is wrong. I'll have to figure out how to change the orriginal post

I had already registered for this before I found this thread. Undecided though. Sounds like great fun. Just not sure if it sounds like enough to get up at 5am on a saturday.

JeepHerz 01-15-2013 06:43 PM

I talked to the store manager in Riverside. He says it is confusing and therefore they don't expect to start until 10 am. (I guess the registration paper says 9am- the flyer says 10 am).

:hijacked:
Its official though- he also agreed to host a Jeep event for charity (to benefit local homeless shelters). That's why I called him- more details to follow on another thread.

From the 15 and the 79 South you can be at Main Street in Ocotillo Wells in an hour and a half. Take the 79 to the S2 (left) to the 78 (left) to Main Street.

From Corona it's no more than two hours. You don't have to leave by 5:00AM. Don't forget a poker run is not a race, you just want to be back in time to see how your hand played out. Starting a little after 10:00 AM won't hurt.

I think Dakota and I are in for this.

vincer2d2 01-15-2013 07:13 PM

I was exaggerating a little for effect. ;) And thinking it started at 9. 10 sounds better. :D

I'm most likely in for the event. Never done a poker run but always thought it sounded super fun. Wheeling with an added bonus/objective.

Plus - free food!

SoCalChris 01-15-2013 09:13 PM

I spoke to the Temecula store today. They wanted everyone to meet at 9 and give instruction to the day then actually start the run at 10. I know we'd be safe leaving the meeting spot around 730 so I'm going to leave it at that. Not like they'll turn us away if we r fashionably late. Lol

Chris I have a joke for you.

Do you know why Offroading/Wheeling is a better sport than Football, Baseball, Golf and Tennis?

Those other sports only require one ball

I'd love to do this run but it is a 3-1/2 hour drive down there from my place and I just dont have the funds right now to make it a multi-day trip.

Have fun you guys. I hope it turns out great and they do more of these.

Coastie1 01-16-2013 10:13 AM

What would be some of the requirements for the run? I'd like to try and make it...
