hi everybody!

New here to this forum.
I'm 56 yrs old but know nothing about my 07 TJ
I live in Long Beach, Ca but leave the jeep in Big Bear.

I have a question. How can I tell if I've got limited slip diffs?
If I don't, is it more adviseable to have limited slips over lockers, mainly for street driving in the snow. Although I do like to go off into the wilderness from time to time. Also, what would be 'useable' gearing? when driving on the street it seems that my gearing is too tall. I do have oversize tires.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

first i want to say that the TJ was built until 2006.a 2007 wrangler should be a JK and no TJ.

for street driving in snow LSDs are ok. but off the road real selectable 100% lockers are way better.

lift the rear of your TJ and spin one rear wheel.
the other rear wheel spins to the same direction = LSD
the other rear wheel spins to the other direction = no LSD

there should also be a little metal plate on one bolt of the diff cover. on that you can rear if you have a LSD.

what´s your tire size? which tranny do you have? 4.0L or 2.5L engine?

yep, my fingers musta got stuck together. it's a 97 not 07.
4.0, 5 spd manual, 31"s
on the metal plate, I can 'rear' if it's lsd?? fingers stuck together?

welcome. The factory limited is known as Trac-lock. Aka trash lock. It helps a bit but is really limited vs other type LSD's. If you might also want to check and see which rear axle you have. If the drain hole is a plastic plug you have a Dana 35 if it has a metal plug you have the dana 44, which is the better axle for doing upgrades too as it is a stronger axle.

Nicolas-eric hit the nail on the head. Follow his directions and you can tell. Another method is to go to this link and request your Jeeps build sheet. Free. Contact Jeep
