Two questions

I have a 2006 Unlimited Rubicon and I need help on two issues, please. The first is, are the interior lights supposed to come on when the tailgate is opened? Mine don't. The second is, I swapped out my battery last week and since then the CD player on my RBQ audio unit doesn't work. Sometimes, I can hear it trying to cycle, like it's trying to play a disk. If I put it in CD mode and hit one of the numbered buttons, it tries to cycle and CD error shows in the display. The same thing happens if I try to eject my CDs. Jeep tells me that the fix is to replace the unit. Any Suggestions.

Thanks,
Pete

1) Interior light doesn't come on with open tailgate.
2)Sounds like you need a new unit.

Can't help you with the first.

For the second issue, have you ever used the cd player while off-roading or on very bumpy roads? My after market head unit CD player stopped working after hitting a very large bump one time while off-roading. I think something was damaged from the vibration, and yes, replacement is the only way to fix it.

I would suggest going with an aftermarket head unit with an auxilary input. I've had no issues since I started using an old mp3 player instead of a bunch of CDs.

I have gone through several of those RB radio's (4) when my Dodge was under warranty. I would ditch it and get an aftermarket unit. For ~$150 you can get a unit that does Bluetooth, MP3, USB, ipod, stream iheart radio, pandora, etc. No more skipping!

No light activation on the tailgate. I bought a cheapo led light with a magnet on it and stuck it on my tailgate. Harbor Freight special.... Works great.

My stock stereo/CD player is finally starting to give me troubles. Works and sounds fine, but has decided not to give me my CD's back until it decides it's good and ready. Sometimes it takes a week. I'm driving down the road listening to the radio, and all of a sudden, it gives me my CD back!

I am wondering what kind of aftermarket unit will power the stock subwoofer for the stock stereo?

Thanks all for the comments and advice. I've talked to Crutchfield and the have a sweet Kenwood unit that will work with my TJ and power the factory sub. It's a KDC BT 852HD. They priced me at $349.95 and includes the tuner unit, Sat unit, iPod/iPhone cable and all necessary mounting gear. It's also HD. I'll be ordering this as soon as I get my next paycheck. They also include installation instructions and lifetime product support and free shipping.
