My Build List for 2010 JKS
I'm starting this thread to try and create a virtual log of my build. I have to start slow and small because I have a 3 year warranty. This thread is going to pop up now and again when I'm asking for advice. My Jeep is a 2010 JK Sport 2DR with 3.21 gear on 6 speed manual.

I will be doing starting off with light and moving up to medium trail riding in northern NJ, so more mud then rock crawling and dunes. If anyone knows of good places to start I'm all ears.

First off is wheels and tires. I am running P255/75R-17, but have no idea what this means. I think I'm going to start with just tires on my stock rims at first. Save some money but get a little change. What are the largest tires I can run on a 3.21? 32-33's? If anyone has any advice to tires for the riding i described that would be greatly appreciated. I will eventually regear but not till my warranty is up, and then probably run 35's.

Once my warranty is up I will probably over a year install a front bumper, regear, winch, small lift and then a larger one when I move to 35's, new sound system, lights. Ill be looking to do quality brands and mostly my own work, with maybe some WF help. How much could this cost in parts?

Gearing is subjective. Auto or man ?Location/terrain/style. The weight of the tires will also have a affect.

If you want to end up with 35 just reheat it once with 4.88, you'll be geared a little low with just 33 on it but its just going to have a little higher rpm at freeway speed. But off road with 33 and 4.88 you'll crawl amazingly!!! If you only do a 4.10 it will push the 33" similar to stock but it will struggle a little to do 35". I had a similar scenario with my jkur I put 35" km2 and geared at 5.13 because I wanted it to be able to handle 37" In the future. I daily drove it and didn't notice much of a loss on the street being geared slightly low

Why are you holding back on the bumper and winch and all of that because Of the warranty? I can understand the lift but with the factory warranty you can lift it, there's just limitations but you can get enough to go to 35"

Just holding back because of money right now, lots of student and car loans to pay off.

Yeah that's understandable, I wasnt sure if you had an extended warranty that limited that stuff. If you want to save money an clear 32-33 look into getting a used rubicon suspension, you can find them with hardly any miles and at cheap prices.

And your last question, how much it could cat in parts? Anywhere from $500-$20,000 In total. Especially within the lift, you could spend a few hundred on spring spacers or 5,000-10,000 on coil overs. do allot of research on your suspension befor you buy it there's allot more that goes Into it than how tall it is, maintaining proper geometry is huge and allot of cheaper lifts don't include everything you need to do that. As far as brands i had Polly performance and liked it, but it was also a little bit more off road biased the way I had it set up. But AEV, rock crawler, full traction, currie there all good brands and I'm sure Im missing a bunch of good ones. Shocks are also a big factor. But it all comes down to what you want out of it and what your willing to spend.

EDIT: This is so i can start planning financially for my modding...

I am going to the dealer for some more issues with my trans, if anyone read any other threads I had some bad JOG syndrome. And now 2nd gear is crunchy, 3rd is a bit stiff, and reverse is still having issues locking into gear (I think they ignored this when I brought it in the first time). But while I'm there I am going to find out what i can mod without voiding my warranty. I am going to regear when i upgrade my tires to 33's and probably wont upgrade to 35's for 3-5 years or ever (but the mod bug will probably have complete control over me by then). Would it be better for me to go to the 4.10 for that time period and then when i go to 35's regear again? Also as I get larger tires, I'm going to start wheeling more and more. Since this is the east is going to be more mud and trails then rock crawling. Should I look into upgrading my axles if i go to 33's and potentially 35's? Eventually I want lockers.

So in short I am asking:
How much in parts and labor will it cost to regear?
Should I upgrade my axels, and how much in parts and labor will it cost if I purchase them with lockers and without?

You are looking at around $2k to regear without the lockers.

Modifications do not void your warranty. Period. Do a search for the Magnuson-Moss warranty act and read up on it.

Your stock tires are considered a 32" tire, so you will see very little performance change from going to a 33" tire. However, the increased weight of a wide heavy duty off road tire combined with the larger size will increase the effect.

My recommendation is to hold off on the re-gear and drive it for a while. Don't be afraid to go off road with it stock. Your stock jeep is still the most capable off road vehicle sold in the US.

Wow 2k to regear?! I think you for ripped off, I only paid $100 and axle for labor but I don't remember what I paid for gears but couldn't be more than 1000 front and rear. Drive it without regearing first and see how much power you loose, then see I you still have to befor 35". If you do look for used rubicon ring and pinion. And I thought the sport had smaller tires than 32" stock, i though that was just the rubicon but I could be
mistaken. And an axle upgrade would be a great investment, look for a rubicon dana mistaken. And an axle upgrade would be a great investment, look for a rubicon dana 44 or you can build up the one you have. And mods can void your warranty, not little stuff but lifts that are beyond a certain point or involve welding to the frame. But it's up to the mechanic if he deems It void able. if he deems It void able.
