Paint your jeep
This question can obviously be applied to any vehicle. Any thoughts on painting your vehicle with a Wagner Power Painter? I know that sounds pretty ridiculous. Im repairing some body rust and once all is said and done I want to repaint the entire vehicle the same color... the previous owner used spray paint on a bunch of spots and it looks splotchy. Anyone have any thoughts, advice or photos of personal paint jobs? Thanks!

I have used a power painter on tractors and large military vehicles and had good results overall. You will NOT get automotive quality paint jobs (smooth and top notch) but you can get ok results. The key is good overall coverage (multiple coats required) and sanding is required if you want smoother results. I also have used a roller method and the right combo of paint/application to get usable results.

Good luck!

@mcseang that looks solid! good work. What did equipment did you use to paint it?

I have done a car with that roller method. Used some rustoleum paint. That main thing I should ha e done that would have made it 1004839592 times better.

WET SAND. Wet sand is the key. To much is impossible.

Look up "dip my car" or "car dip" on's a pretty nice alternative. And if you don't like it...peel it off! Got a couple of buddies that do this to their cars. Looks good when done right!

If you wheeling a lot and go through woods, mud, etc. it's a waste to do a "professional painting job". Your best option is to rolled it or paint it yourself if you have the space and sklills.

yeah, I have a little experience with rolling automotive paint. I am a commissioned artist and I've done a few auto murals with brushes. Sometimes if the mixture isn't right strokes are noticeable. I reading a lot that says 50/50 mixture... Gilcano above suggests 1/3 thinner to paint. Anyone have any suggestions on paint/thinner/hardener mixture? In response to Gilcano above, Ill be riding on the beach and mud a lot, as this is my second and much more recreational vehicle, so Im pretty sold on the roller method.... also since Im not changing the color, just going from red to the closest version of red. Keep the advice and pics coming - this is super helpful!!
