Smittybilt XRC MOD

Just wondering what everyone thinks of these and if anyone has any pics of theirs. I have the SRC rear, and I like it, but I don't like the SRC front. Specifically with the full length end caps. Thanks folks.

holt_ian 01-21-2013 08:41 AM

Is there seriously no one out there with this bumper system?

I love mine

I'm thinking about getting it. It's on the top of my list, but I haven't gotten it yet. I have seen it installed on the dealer lot and I liked the look, which was what made me want to get it.

keep in mind that it is made overseas, plenty of other options that are made here in the US.

Yes but as long as I assemble it to the rest of the overseas parts here in the US, then I can consider it "made in the USA"

The holes may not line up just right, but it's not like they substituted plastic for metal.

Some people need to chill out about this. Certain people like what they like and while other bumpers are available, they do not look the same. If/when there's a bumper that looks exactly like the MOD bumper made in America, then bring up your argument. Until then, it's kinda like telling people who want Macbook Pros that Dell also makes computers. No, it won't do.

Lots of parts on your jeep made are made over seas.

JerryJeepster 01-21-2013 10:59 AM

About 78 percent of your Jk is American. I looked this up for everyone bashing everything made overseas and think their Jeep is 100 percent American. Buy what you want and get what you pay for, but always look for Made in America first.

I have this bumper. Holes do not line up and you have to do some reaming of the holes to make it fit. Not sure if I would do it again. Not sure if I will ever buy a Smittybilt product. They have left a sour taste in my mouth. You can check mine out from my post.
Anyone Have the Smittybilt XRC M.O.D. Bumper System

holt_ian 01-22-2013 01:00 AM

Thanks for the input guys, I know that it's made overseas, and quite frankly that doesn't matter to me. I'm just looking for a bumper that looks decent and won't break my wallet or break if granny bumps into me at the market. Thank you for all that posted pictures and replies though, I'm new to the forum and forums in general. Does anyone have any suggestions for bumpers that are possibly better that look similar? I was also looking at the ACE Engineering mid-width bumper since they are about 20 miles from my house. Thanks again folks.

Rugged Ridge also makes a modular bumper. I only have the center winch mount so far, but they offer mid and full length end caps.

Q-Tec has a design tool on their website to give you ideas. Look up XHD and it'll pull right up.

Do you like that bumper? It's one of the ones that I was looking at. Did you have to drill into the frame at all? How's the metal? Good and heavy or cheap and light?

Tweak 01-22-2013 06:09 AM

i wasnt saying that anything is wrong with the fact that its made overseas, i just prefer to support OUR workforce in any way that i can when there are other options. i guess im a bit prideful.

I honestly wonder about this some times...

I mean yes - one guy/shop welds parts and ship them across the country = jobs.

However, if it involves a shipping company, customs, dock workers, etc., wouldn't that = more jobs?

Made in America is a great slogan, and a great attitude to have but it's not as black and white as the media make it seem.

I love the bumper so far! Its gonna be better when I get a winch and center loop. Install was pretty easy, but there are the 4 outside bolts that are a pita to reach. Install took about an hour and a half with stopping for breaks, and there was no drilling required. Fits right in the factory bumper bolt holes.

The metal itself seems solid. Haven't had a chance to wheel it yet. The front part of the winch plate (forgot the name, piece for the fairlead) seems a bit weak, but it'll still hold the fairlead.

I found the ACE after I placed my order for the XRC MOD. Had I seen the ACE first that is wht I would have bought. Stronger built, thicker steel and looks great. When I do get my rear bumper it will be the ACE w/tire carier

In the instructions listed for this item on Quadratec it says that I have to drill into the frame for the lower air dam. Any one know anything about this?

holt_ian 01-27-2013 03:10 AM

LED lights

Where are you planning to add LEDs?

I was looking at those. Are they worth the $18 each?
