Just got my first TJ, and I'm anxious to begin working on it. What was the first thing (modification etc..) you did to your TJ?

Pipp88 01-21-2013 03:29 PM

Bed liner the tub. Had to get rid of the carpet.

swedeTJ06 01-21-2013 03:32 PM

Removed a lot of plastic stuff and the "footsteps"

Dan216 01-21-2013 03:35 PM

I've been thinking about doing that actually. Did you use Raptor Liner?

Beachcomber 01-21-2013 03:35 PM

Trail hitch, 2"BB, Iggee seat covers.

mudmagnet63 01-21-2013 03:36 PM

Found a mud hole

RevCo666 01-21-2013 03:39 PM

Took it out on a mild rocky trail and tested the 4x4 since I never had a vehicle with that option before... After that I was HOOKED! Damn, jeeps like drug you cant get enuff off lol

PS no rehab required :)

mpbannon60 01-21-2013 03:41 PM

Hurst shifter knob been passed down to my second jeep

Dan216 01-21-2013 03:43 PM

Ha! I'm planning on trying a light offroad out this upcoming weekend. Everywhere is covered in snow here in Idaho though!

Fatherof2 01-21-2013 03:45 PM

Dropped the top!!

Dextreme 01-21-2013 03:45 PM

I replaced all the fluids and checked the condition of the differentials.

ChaddG 01-21-2013 03:46 PM

Cleaned it, pounded the dents out of it ;)

Recently I decided to take my TJ on a frozen lake for a bit(got some pics on the forum if your interested)... Snow is normal up here in Northern Ontario, Canada... Waiting for another big hit and test it out further...

Figured out how to disconnect the front antiswaybar which helped quite a bit on the milder offroad trails. Leave the rear antiswaybar connected! :)

x2. That and removed the top, doors, running boards and milk jugs on the front and rear bumpers.

Things I'm going to do?
-Lift kit
-Tires/wheels
-MCE fenders
-New bumper and winch (en route )
-Raptor line tub

I could rattle off a bunch more, but I'll spare you. Long story short, it never ends.

Ditched the carpet for some bedliner, took the nerf bars off.

Bobs Jeep 01-21-2013 06:25 PM

It was a brand new 2001. Got it home and pulled the carpet out. Six years later I put it back in and sold it. Same thing with the 2004 I bought a couple years ago.

Rubicondon53 01-21-2013 06:55 PM

Removed rear seat / carpeting, installed expedition racks and trail/saddle bags, removed RUBICON and trail rated stickers, aired tires down to 32 lbs. all done the very first weekend of April 2004..

Can you provide a link to your pictures? Thanks!

My 97 had new carpet. wet okole seat covers and a lift. I think I stored the hardtop, removed the soft top and bought a cargo net to cover the back.

That was four years ago and now I'm ordering new seats, maybe bumpers and new wheels/tires.

By the way this forum is addictive.

i removed the side steps and the jugs from the bumpers, and now it just keeps getting more expensive to mod.

tallzdatank 01-21-2013 07:53 PM

toke the bumper off my dead tj and put it on the tj.

A1ex 01-21-2013 08:19 PM

wheels and tires(bought with lift), after all fluids of course

Patrick H 01-21-2013 08:24 PM

First day, new tires, removed the bumper jugs and steps. First week, 2" BB and shocks, aftermarket muffler, changed all fluids (diffs, transfer case, transmission, coolant, P/S fluid, brake fluid, engine oil)

BlackTJ98 01-21-2013 08:38 PM

Took the top off!

viperx6x9x 01-21-2013 08:44 PM

I ripped out that crappy radio that came with it and put in a simple Sony.

The "7 Speaker" system actually sounds decent with a better radio in it, just no bass cuz the "sub" is blown.
