Fire!!!!

Yes, fire has finally come to my neighborhood. We spent yesterday packing both trucks a trailer and the jeep. Now we are just siting around sucking up the smoke, listening to planes, helicopters, trucks, saws, dozers and waiting for a reverse 911 call. :(

skeeter 09-12-2008 11:22 AM

Good luck.

tiny terror 09-12-2008 11:27 AM

Stay safe Pointy.

4point 09-12-2008 11:33 AM

Its not a big fire (yet) maybe 50-100 acres. They are bombing the crap out of it. We are in very steep terrain and that can change quickly. USFS is fighting it and Cal-Fire is almost on every house. We'll see?!

1BLKJP 09-12-2008 11:57 AM

Thoughts are with you Point. Stay safe boss.

MOz 09-12-2008 12:00 PM

WOW,,,good luck man.

That's my worst fear where I live. I'm in the middle of a forest.

I'm waiting for a call to leave and keeping an eye on things. Not point in leaving if I do not have to. :D

With the forest management practices we've had over the last 50 years, my house would go up in smoke no matter how much water you put on it. :banghead: The forest is way to thick and far to much understory and duff. This place is a tinder box.

MOz 09-12-2008 01:14 PM

My house is made of stone and had a cedar shake roof until 3 years ago. It was a beautiful roof but highly combustible. Living in a forest, I never felt comfortable with the roof.

We upgraded to a class A - fire resistant architectual shingle when we did our addition...

4point 09-12-2008 01:19 PM

I'm all wood sided with a comp shingle roof. I'm fairly safe as far as that goes but the forest comes to within 3 ft of my home on three sides. 100ft tall ponderosa pines.

MOz 09-12-2008 01:56 PM

I know the feeling: I have 100 ft. hemlocks, blue spruces and monster tulip poplars within 20 ft.

Good luck man...

4point 09-12-2008 02:06 PM

Thanks

kg4kpg 09-12-2008 02:19 PM

Good luck dude. I've always heard of the tree-huggers using politics to keep folks from clearing brush that is giving the firefighters the heck they are having now. Wouldn't want to kill the little birdie or take away his home in the brush. Sheez. Hope they get it out before it gets too close to you.

richp 09-12-2008 02:23 PM

I cut everything down within 30 feet of the house when we built here. They should make those greenies that stop the forest service buy homes in the area they refuse to let them do controlled burns on. Then we see how fast the tune changes..
Got two or three big ones that have to come down, probably in the spring, maybe this fall. I'm in the same boat, they used to have decade burn offs here, it stopped in 84 and the underbrush is pretty fierce, not so much on my property I burn small areas every once in a while, but the tourists that have vacation homes give me dirty looks and make a nuisance of themselves with the county emergency center if I do it on the weekends.

4point 09-12-2008 02:53 PM

Here brushing and burning is OK during the wetter months, but I have a eco-terrorist neighbor who files a complaint if I try to burn the slash. He claims he has allergies and that's enough for the sheriff to tell me I can't burn. This is the guy who tried to stop me from removing bug trees that were dying in my front yard.
Oh well, I wouldn't move from here. I love this place.

Go trap some skunks and ground hogs then turn them loose on his property. Maybe some bear baits, whatever it takes to get his property populated by the local wildlife... and bird seed, throw about 300lbs on to his property if you could figure out how to draw mountain lions I'd do that too

Okay, as long as they don't smell like SMOKE!!!

Run, Pointy, Run!

4point 09-12-2008 04:06 PM

I just talked to the big giant fire heads, they said it is moving away from us now. :D Its taken about 300 acres during its path. Its about 3/4 mi away. So it sounds like it will be OK............................................. Maybe? :D

Oh, and I am going to be on the 6PM news.

ccain 09-12-2008 04:12 PM

It's good to hear that the worst may be over for ya...

6 O'clock news eh? What'd you do to your Eco-tard neighbor this time? :D

Not like that at all, they were just asking about the fire. Which by the way looks like another pot farm that started it. The sheriff has hauled away literally millions upon millions of dollars of marijuana this year.

Oh man! A pot farm went up?! That explains the red cross not keeping up with the demand of doughnuts and Doritos for the fire fighters and deputies. :blunt:

There went your second income. :blunt:

Wow, Pointy, that's kinda scary. I'm glad it's moving the other way for now. I hope they get it out quick. Good luck and stay safe, with the fire and your neighbor.
