A painful day..

The day I had to get a tag for my Jeep. Ended up costing me right at $1100.00 -_- Hurt the wallet! So I'm now taking donations for parts for the Jeep haha. Hope everyone is having a great day and up for a great weekend. I'm gonna be broke sitting in a corner lol.

How do tags end up costing $1100?

cctriesch 01-25-2013 07:49 AM

Yeah thats what I want to know? Where do you live?

Raiderfan001 01-25-2013 08:21 AM

tabber02 01-25-2013 08:23 AM

I know that pain. I got hooked for $948 to transfer a 95 yj two weeks ago.

Of course I am in Cali and the PO had not registered it since 2007. So I got to pay all that plus penalties.

Since I got away for less. I'll buy the beer for us to cry into. :D

One of the many reasons i'm glad to be out of that sh**hole state. Here in MO if your tags expire....big deal. Just go in and renew them. No late fees and no having to Non-op vehicles. And you can walk out with plates and tags in 10 minutes tops. Actually I take that back...I think there is a late fee...it's like $10...

Count your blessings while you can. The CA-virus is spreading as carriers of the virus leave this state and take root elsewhere. Not sure what the dormancy time is or what triggers the virus to activate, but CA ideas have already infiltrated other state's legislations. You can see some examples in adoption of CA pollution standards for vehicles. I think the virus has mutated too - NY now has stricter gun regulations than CA.

But I digress. It doesn't pay to buy a vehicle that isn't currently registered unless you can cut the purchase price to make up for the difference. I got the seller of my YJ to drop the price a few hundred $$$ because the registration was 6 months over due. Of course I got totally nicked for taxes.

...but $1100 for tags ... holy snikes! Were the tags solid gold with diamond encrusted borders?

Nope.. sadly it's not a typo! I bought the Jeep in GA when I went home for Christmas. And apparently even though I'm not a resident of AR, I just had to get a tag here, I had to pay state tax here which actually cost me a lot more than I thought. Kind of a messed up situation, I think I'm getting screwed but I don't think there is really anything I can do about it. I can't drive to GA to get a tag lol, the money I would spend going through all that I would have about the same amount in it -_-

tabber02 01-25-2013 03:28 PM

sorry to hear. any chance they'll wave that fee because your military? :nonono:

I wish.... I don't think so just because it's an Arkansas thing. AR has a "personal auto/home tax" (?) thing that they waived for me, but said I still had to pay state tax. :banghead: I would have much rather used that money towards paying her off, or a lift or something, not taxes -_-

tabber02 01-25-2013 03:48 PM

man that sucks. sorry to hear. north carolina did that to me... but because i was still a resident of new york (stationed in north carolina) i didn't have to pay the taxes. just the titling and license fees.

Thanks, just gonna take it easy this weekend and try to recover lol. What branch are you in? Are you at Pope/Bragg by any chance?

I didn't think about that, I would hate to bother you for that but I sire appreciate that! I'll def keep it in mind next time something comes up! I sure appreciate that.

I know it! I'll still be here a while though. And I will be there! Will I get to meet you and shake your hand this time? Looking forward to the meeting.

That is really strange they didn't waive those fees for you. Here in Colorado if you are active duty military you only pay I think $50 to register a vehicle. Make sure next time you have to renew those tags to let them know if you are active duty and it should be a lot cheaper. That sucks though!!

That's what I thought! Someone told me that they think its just an Arkansas thing. Makes me glad I'm not stationed here, just passing through! I'm def gonna try to get a better deal next time.
