Stupid stock trunk!
I posted in a few places how I think that trunk was a dare or a bet the was lost by the designer. So shortly after I got my JK I cut that sucker out and it is still in a pile next to my house, lol.
Why would someone plasma cut their new jeep, you ask? Well...why not? I should admit that my JK was bought used. I picked it up in 2011 and quickly started working on modding it. I saw a guy who dropped in a large ammo can in place of the trunk and I picked up a trunk for cheap. However after really looking at it I realized it wasn't that much bigger than the stock one. :banghead:
So out came the plasma. Now granted I did not take the most time to do this and should have spent more time on the trunk, but it works for me and when I go to sell it, I may redo it so it is a bit better. Maybe.
There be a hole in my jeep...not the first and won't be the last, lol:punk:
The basic shape just doing a bit of grinding.
Still rough and was before I finished grinding down the edges, sealed any gaps and bedlined it.
Yes, it is as heavy as it looks. I could probably balance the whole jeep on it and barely make a mark. I tend to over build things...way way over build them.
It is now deep enough to hold standard quarts of oil/tranny fluid or anything else of that size in the lower section and the upper section can be for tools or misc extra gear.
I did weld it in but never did put a new lid on it. Maybe this year. I still use the stock one as it still clips but it just doesn't slide into the notches towards the front of the vehicle.
I guess deep down I still think of Jeeps as GP-General Purpose vehicles and modify as needed to fit the occasion that is current.
One of my next things will be to modify the rear seat so it isn't so upright. Need to get that done before July when my kiddo arrives. :thumb:
I like it. And yes all jeeps should pe GP vehicles.
Looks good. I think I am going to be doing some cutting in the future.
