Tubular Bumpers

Hi all,

I am looking to do my first Jeep wranglar 2004 mod. Since these factory bumpers suck. I am planning on starting there. And also because I've already bent both front and back bumpers LOL. Good place to start.

So After hours of part searching, I really like the Tubular Bumper W/ hoop look. Since my Jeep is Silver, I think powdered black would look good. I might as well add a tow hitch just in case. My question is does anybody have perference to Mopar, Smittybilt, Rampage or Rhino? There seems to be a big price difference in these parts look very similar. Price usually indicates quality but not always. I have also seen a tubular kit which includes front bumper, rear bumper, and side steps for 508.99. Does anybody have this? Is it worthy of purchase or is it a piece of #!*&?

Any help here would be great

Yeah I tend to run ito things. Look out they gave me a drivers license

We may have lost the war if not for the Jeep 1945:eek:

many of the guys around here, including myself, would advise against tubular bumpers for a few reasons. mainly..they aren't really all that functional. if you do offroading of any sort, they do not have any place to attach d-rings for appropriate revovery points. bumpers such as the warn that are made of rectangular tubing are more functional than the tubular bumpers are. that's my $.02 about them.

the warn rockcrawler bumbers are awesome!! but my preference would be smittybilt...they seem to be really good

I know you're asking about tubular bumpers , but i just installed a Warn front bumper on Friday night , super impressed . Bolted right on in minutes , looks great , imho . :) It appears to be well built , but anything will be better than factory , good luck.

Another vote not for the tube bumpers. As they tend to also rust out after time. Look at Big daddy off road, warn, etc. Heck I still run the stock front bumper and it works just fine. Also for rocker guards don't get tube, look into those that fit nice and tight with the body.

mrbigjeep 07-02-2006 03:22 PM

yea...you can get some rock rails or poison spyder rockers or shrockworks rockers...all of those are great and protect your rocker panels while giving you a step up

Ok I get the point. Tube bumpers are right out. Thank you for putting me on the right trail.

mrbigjeep 07-15-2006 01:10 PM

no prob...i don't think any of us mind :)

While I was not a big fan of the tube bumper "look", I got a super deal on a used Smittybuilt rear bumper. I have to say that I've been happy with it. It has a 2" receiver which is great for the bike rack and also as a recovery point. As far as I know, the Smittybuilt is the only bumper that's actuall rated for towing. If you look at how it's built, it really is a frame mounted hitch that has the bumper tubes bolted on. It adds a little protection to the rear corners as well. When it gets scraped up on the trail, a little black spray paint fixes it right up.
It's one of the least expensive too - $200

It's this one, except mine is textured black:

I also have been looking at bumpers (for a long time) but have held out (because I can't make up my mind)

I found this one last week and like it more than any others to date:

I don't have it, but I want it - saw it on Jeepforum in the for sale section - I don't know the $$$ yet

Wr@ngler00 07-24-2006 11:12 PM

I would also say not to go with a tube bumper. I have a friend who has bent two of them. I keep telling him to go with a rock crawler type bumper but he likes the tube look. I think it looks nasty but its your jeep. If you do go with a tube bumper i would go with the fabtech style, i have hard some good things about them. Good luck.

SurfnSnow 07-24-2006 11:31 PM

heya 1blkjp, I really like the fabtech bumper. The d-ring mounts are extremely solid and there is room for a winch. the bumper also comes with a steering box skid plate that ties into the frame and the bumper making it one solid unit. I got both for $269 I think. The only thing is that you have to order fog light extension wires ($20 from mopar) as the current foglight wiring won't reach.

mrbigjeep 07-25-2006 12:52 PM

lol i was just about to ask how much it was and then u said you dont know $$$ :D

mrbigjeep 07-25-2006 12:52 PM

looks sweet

SurfnSnow 07-25-2006 02:30 PM

thanks. Ya I tried looking for the reciept and couldnlt find it but I know it was under $300 .

WranglerHawg 08-04-2006 02:31 PM

My friend and I built a rear bumper for my jeep, and we are about to start building the front one. Made it out of 2x6 Steel, and it looks awesome. We welded a reciever into it, and 2 back up lights. If you are interested, we could build you one for about 250 bucks, plus shipping. Some dumb ass on a 4 wheeler ran into me the other night, didn't even scratch my bumper and his bike got mangled. If you are interested, let me know, and i'll email you a photo of what it looks like.

amerijeep 08-04-2006 05:21 PM

Post a photo of it. If you don't know how to post it up, we can walk you through it or you can email it to someone. Someone on here will post it up for you.

I took the liberty to post his rear bumper from his pictures. Hope it is ok with everyone.

Very nice, and functional bumper.

WranglerHawg 08-07-2006 03:06 PM

Thanks blu, i hope everyone likes it, we made two other ones just like it, front and rear for my buddies jeep, its on 40s so we made the bumpers with 2x10 steel, and it looks great, very functional, and solid as a rock, i have pulled out full size trucks with 38s and bigger with that bumper, its great. Those backup lights may not look like much, but i had the KC backup lights on my old truck, and these ones are even brighter and they are some generic brand from Northern Tool, if anyone is interested, let me know...thanks again for posting the pic blu

bluvikng 08-07-2006 07:20 PM

You are very welcome, the least I could do for you.

I saw it on another forum for sale...the member made it, but it was for a flat fender. I e-mailed him with some questions, however he never responded. So, I talked to a fellow in our club who is going to fab me one up, based on the design.

Scout 10-14-2006 10:34 AM

Ok, thanks. I really like the way that one looks.
