Rough Country 4" N2.0 Series Suspension Lift thoughts??

I am looking to get a reasonably priced 4" suspension on my TJ and I've been told from a reliable source that the Rough Country 4" N2.0 Series Suspension is a really great kit as far as quality and price together go at only $500. The guy that I deal with as far as buying parts and installation has the RC 4" X Series on one of his Wranglers and said this one is really just as good at half the price. Said its a great entry level suspension and for no more than I do (just some light offroading as I own a 2000 Chili Pepper Limited Edition TJ and want to keep it more on the classy side) that it would do just fine. I would just like to gather some thoughts on this suspension and also any recommendations of any other good kits. Thanks! ...Below is a pic of my Jeep as it is right now. It has a body lift on it at the moment which I plan on removing and replacing with the 4" suspension.

In that same price range, many people on here prefer the Zone 4.25" Combo kit (some like the Zone 4"). The quality and ride seems to be better and people don't seem to have to replace as many parts after just a few years.

Pull the trigger on the 4" 2.0. I have a 3.25" but with the 2.0 shocks. Love it and works great. I think it rides better than stock but that's me.

As I mentioned before in other threads. Be prepared to run to the hardware store :hide: My transfercase lowering kit did not come with washers for the bolts. I don't know what I was thinking but I ran the jeep for 3 days of normal city driving and the hex bolts were digging into the skidplate. As far as it riding better, I have seen an improvement but only because PO never installed new shocks so I had the same ones from factory.


I like the kit but I wish I would have waited to pick and choose other components. Not really digging the coil springs, I would have gone with BDS springs. LCA's are okay for my type of wheeling since I do plenty of trail riding and beach runs. I wouldn't put them through tough obstacles if I were you. :whistling:

People with experience with RC will pretty much all tell you it's crap. Do some research instead of going with this guy's advice. You really get what you pay for when it comes to lifts. Your bushings will be shot in no time and your shocks will rattle your teeth out. And tcase drop kit? Is that something you really want to do? You're losing clearance, defeating the purpose of a lift entirely.

When you mean "this guys advice" I hope you don't mean me. I'm speaking about my lift kit from my own experience. Sure, you can be like everyone and jump on the bash on RC lift bandwagon and tell others it's a horrible lift. But I'm speaking from my own experience and chose this lift for my purpose of wheeling.

Shocks rattling your teeth out? Well how so? I'm not an idiot, my shocks have been properly bolted down. I have to admit, your statement must be invalid because since I have put my N2.0 series lift on, I had no rattling from the shocks what so ever.

My tcase drop is temporary since I do plan on getting a SYE along with a double cardan shaft.


Like I said, the lift is alright, but I wish I could have changed out some components. I also said I wouldn't trust my lift for hardcore obstacles. But then again in my area, the majority of the area is wooded trails, and a beach.

Look, I don't do any hardcore offroading in this jeep. I don't feel like I need to put forth the money on a $1000+ suspension (at this point for this jeep anyway) for no more than what I use it for. You're gonna see and hear positives and negatives anywhere you look, but for the most part I've heard really good things about Rough Country products and this suspension in particular. Not to mention I've been told from several sources that their customer service is outstanding. On the other hand, I am not too familar with Zones Products, but I've been doing some research and read good things about both their 4" and 4.25" suspensions. Still leaning more towards the RC, but not 100% yet and I will continue to research. Any help is much appreciated!

I was referring to the guy the OP is getting advice from. The OP said "The guy that I deal with..." and I was making the case that he isn't getting good advice from whoever this guy is.

You misunderstood the phrase "rattle your teeth out." I don't mean the shocks are/were incorrectly installed, I mean they ride very hard. There's a reason people often say the Rough Country name is ironic, it's because their "kits" and the shocks that come with them ride extremely rough.

The fact that you own a RC lift and you want to "change out some components" speaks for itself.:)

I've been running a RC 4" lift on our 2000 TJ since 05, haven't replaced any thing except the shocks just last week. I can't compare coil springs compared to others, but we run mild trails and spend a lot of time on the beach, for the price I have nothing to complain about, the bushings are fine, just had it on a lift an gave it a once over, I think it rides better and definately handles better. For what I do with it, I'm very happy 7-8 years after installing it, no issues

Under the Palms, I appreciate your insight. Are you running the kit as is, or did you also purchase the SYE and extended driveshaft? RC recommends both of these with the 4" N2.0. Is that something I'd really need to purchase along with it? I'm running 35's on my jeep at the moment, but once those are shot I plan on downsizing a bit to 33's.

I'm just running the kit, no special drive shafts or anything, I replace the rear ujoint every 2+ years or so, no biggie. A lot of people and companies will tell you you'll have to do this and that, yada, yada, yada. In my experience, I was building kits back in the early 80's when you couldn't buy them, and I've owned a lot of lifted trucks, 40's 44's you name it, it all really comes down with how you use it, and how hard you are on it. Like I said, I have 8 years or so on the lift with no issues, I actually replaced the shocks more because I was redoing it, new engine, seats, rug, sprucing it up, and the shocks just looked like hell. I live in a very rural town, lots of twisty back roads, and I love the way it handles, I can hop the highway and run 2 hours to Rhode Island and drive right out on the beach, and hit the highway home. Furthermore, with the 35's I haven't had any front end failures, no pitnam arms, drag links or ball joints, and this is with 103,000 on it. I don't go to crazy in the woods with it, but enough to hear my wife let out a yelp or two. It's just my experience, but I have nothing to complain about.

I just installed this lift recently. It's a good lift for trail riding which is what I do. It's too stiff for rock crawling. I had to drop the tcase a bit further than what the provided spacer allowed to get rid of driveline vibes. I'm planning on a sye soon to get rid of that drop. It rides a little rough, but I'd hardly say it rattles your teeth out. For the money spent I'm very happy with it. If you're planning on rock crawling with it I'd look elsewhere, though.

I've had my RC 4" on my jeep for about 4 months and its a good cosmetic lift. But way to stiff for the rock crawling I do. Very bumpy ride. I plan on upgrading to a rubicon express 7.5" long arm kit when I have an extra $3k laying around. Until then ill be sporting my RC lift.

Well it looks like I'm not gonna need to worry about it either way! Since I am very new in the Jeep world I took it and had it checked out to see everything that was put on it from the previous owner(s). Turns out I actually had about 3/4 of a 4" suspension already on there. Only thing is it had been replaced with factory front coil springs and the track bar wasn't there. Not exactly sure what the thinking was in that. That explains the rake in it causing it to sag in the front as factory coils tend to weaken pretty good over time. Not to mention I had a nice wobble going on once I hit 55+MPH. So I decided to just replace the front and rear coil springs and track bar and gotta get the tires rotated then everything's there, so it turns out great and a lot cheaper! I appreciate everyone's help and advice in this suspension though, even though turned out the way it did!

I've been lookin at the n20 lift as well but I've been getting mixed reviews on it
A lot of ppl have been telling me I should go with skyjacker but I wanted to get ppls opinions on what goes best on a 2002 tj with the 4cyl.

I am considering the n20 for my tj and was wanting to run possibly 35's but in order to do that i was considering running a 2' body lift. If i do the 2' BL what additional things will i need? (sye, longer fuel lines?)

BL larger than 1.25" or so cause way more problems than they're worth. They also create ugly gaps between the body and the frame. A SYE is unnecessary for the BL, but I would highly recommend it for the 4" suspension lift.

Before you start ordering parts, I suggest you do some research on the forums about your plans. I would go into the details but I'm not an expert, and don't intend to play one on the internet. Just know that there's a lot of work that goes into fitting 35s beyond a lift and you should figure out what you're getting into before you get in too deep and have to buy your way out of it. Not trying to be mean, just trying to keep you from crippling your Jeep. Welcome to the forums! :wavey:
