Aftermarket parts
 
Hello everyone I have some questions about a 2010 jeep wrangler unlimited sports, so my mom recently bought it its has a 6 inch lift with 34inch tires, I drove it the other day and I feel as if the tires are to much for the motor. Want aftermarket parts would be good ?

Start with installing gears that get the ratio back to where it was before the tires went on. You will like the results.

About the only thing you can do for a 3.8 motor is change to a new gear set. For 34's, you need at least 4.88 in a automatic and 4.10's for manual tranny minimum. If you pay for an expensive CAI, use a tuner like Superchips, and a Cat back, you can get 10hp or at least they claim but thats at 4600 rpm's. At driveable rpm ranges it is more like 2 to 3 hp which is barely noticeable and you just spent half of what it would take to do a real change that actually works which is regearing.

Yea I was thinking about getting it re geared to but the thing is once these tires ware out and we decide to get smaller tires wouldn't I have to re gear it again?I was also looking at engine swaps but thats a bit pricey And I think it's a 6 inch lift over all Including the tires

I have ran the 4.88's in my 2010 with 285/70/17's and now 33X12.5X15's

I have to say they are a little too much at 70 mph and that's why I am going to 35's next but they aren't bad on 33's. They are awesome in the city though. I can turn over the wheels at a stop sign, not much but can. Passing is easy and get up and go is great.

But saying that, with the lift you have, anything smaller will look a little weird. Even 33's will look small. And if you go to 15's which is my favorite size wheel but it really isn't that bad in price for 35's and 33's are dirt cheap compared to tires on 16's and 17's.

Then too, if your dead set on going to a smaller tires, Rubicon came stock with 4.10's and stock tires and they ran just fine. It may not be perfect for 34's and up but would work with 34's or 32's

Can we see a pic of your Jeep. 6" is a little much for a JK. They are very expensive to lift that size and do it right. Might just be a 4". A 4" on a JK looks huge.

well OP said its 6" total including tires. that could mean that they only measured from rails to ground and compared it to a stock jeep. If thats the case, it could just be a 2.5" lift with a 33" tire.

i think that combo would measure a ~6" difference if measuring from the ground to say the side rails.

OP, please put up some pix so that we can take a look and help further...

Those Grabbers are a nice tire if you are running baja, but they are one of the heaviest tires on the market. With the limited power from the 3.8l v6, weight is your enemy.

JP magazine did a comparison with those vs a pair Duratracs both in a 33" size. They picked up 2 seconds on their zero to 60 time just by changing out the tire and rim combos.

Im going to look into that cause when you try to step in the peddle the throttle response lags. So the best thing to do would be to get it re geared? Do you guys know how much that would cost?

The Throttle Lag is due to the Drive-By-Wire.

I have a Tuner that Increases the Sensitivity by 20%. It is def. a noticeable Improvement, but still not Snappy like a Throttle with an Actual Cable.

So the throttle lag has nothing to do with the heavy tires and rims?

Decide on what tire you want to run first. Then I would say regear. To have that done you are looking at $1200 - $1500 for parts and labor. It isn't something I would suggest trying to tackle on your own, and you don't want to pay to have it done multiple times.

No, like you Said above, "when you try to step in the peddle the throttle response lags" that is due to the Drive-By-Wire.

The Heavy Wheels & Tires Impact the Overall Power Output of the Engine. That's why people are telling you to get a Regear done.

I have an Intake, Axle-Back Exhaust, and Predator Tuner.

Did it make a Power Difference? Yes

Was it a Dramatic "WOW" Difference in Power? No

But I'm Happy.

Those items won't hurt anything, but will only be a band aid for regearing. Worst case you have 3.21 gears, but with those size tires you should be closer to around 4.56 or higher. Someone can probably post a gear chart for you.

Lift kits and bigger tires look great, but you really open up a new can of worms once you change stock components in terms of perfomance. Since you are talking a 2010 that means you have the 3.8. Even with the 80+ more HP of the 3.6 in the 2012+ I would still say to regear. I don't think the HP is the problem.

Okay I found a chart and it said 4.88 was minimum but 5.13 was better for a daily driver thanks for the help

Also if you are going to go to dfiferent tires (size) and it will be more permanent, then consider selling the tires you have while they are in good shape, and picking up tires in the size you want now. Then you can regear for what you really want. If you are going smaller, then you can probably find a set on here too and it could end up being a swap.
Looks wise I would stick with what you have for size, smaller might be too small.

FWIW, be carefull gonig to far on the gearing. PO of mine put in 5.38 running 35's and it is too much for a DD. I wish I had 4.88 or 5.13. (2007 JKU, std).

Thanks I was thinking about the tire size to honestly sometimes the tires look big on the jeep then somedays they look small haha but Im sure anything smaller would make it look funky

And yea I think im going to go with 5.13 the chart said 5.38 was good for rock climbing which I'm not going to be doing
