Right now I'm free & the extended weather outlook is showing partly cloudy & 50F...

I've been out running the trails for 4 of the last 6 weekends. I think I'm going to take a break this weekend. I am planning something for the upcoming 3 day weekend this month, though. I'll either do the Monongahela National Forest or see what there is in the Reddish Knob area and part south in the GWNF.

I'm checking with my wife. We might be in. 2 Jeeps.

kawa, how has the camping been? Seems pretty cold for my blood! :) Monongahela is nice... drove through there a couple of weekends ago!

Not too bad. We have good bags and a decent tent. We're trying to maximize our forest road exploration so basically we drive until about 8:30 p.m., set up camp, heat up some stew, drink a beer around the campfire and go to bed. We break camp just before dawn and hit the trails shortly after first light.

I was stationed in Alaska. We used to do ambushes and stuff at 20 below so it's all relative. Cold weather camping is an acquired taste to be sure.

I'm formulating the opinion that the only good time of the year to go Jeeping in the GWNF is during hunting season when the seasonal forest roads are open and/or when there is a good base of snow on the ground.

Awesome, thanks. I may try to acquire that taste, but will build up slowly :)
