Possibly moving to VA?

Hey guys, I'm heading to Manassas this weekend for my first "big boy civilian job" interview since I left the military. I've only ever spent time in the Oceana, Norfolk, and Va Beach area. Just trying to get a feel for the area. I'm an avid mountain biker as well as Jeeper so any input on locations or clubs would be great :)

We have a great group in the area called Nova Jeepers, feel free to check us out. Lots of mountain bikers and some trails to ride up this way too. Good luck on the interview.

Don't move to Manassas. My 2 cents.

Check out haymarket- 20 mins from mountains, and 15 mins to Manassas.

I've been looking at homes in the area. I'll grab an apt at first but eventually look for a home for my family and I. It's hard to swallow the cost of living in that area. I come from an area in Indiana where an average nice home runs 125-150k. Even when I lived in California it wasn't that much different From what I'm seeing it's one extreme to another, estate mansions or condos and trailers. In your opinion what is a nice middle class area? I'm willing to commute 30min to work

Welcome to Northern VA. Your location says Hanford. I was a recruiter in Delano back in the late 80's. I had a great time 4 wheeling up around Lake Isabella and on BLM desert land. Things are pretty tightly managed in the northern part of the GWNF. There are lots of forest roads but most don't require 4WD and the most interesting roads are only open during hunting season. That said, I've had great enjoyment over the last month exploring some cool places. Snow turns even a mundane road into something fun.

I'm a road/mountain biker, hiker & climber. This is a good area for all of the above. You have a lifetime worth's of back country mountain biking. I don't know of any decent riding by Mannassas but within an hour's drive you have Fountainhead (very sweet course), Quantico, Difficult Run, Lorton, Accotink, and Wakefield. Further out you have Gambrill, Patapsco, Elizabeth Furnace, Andy Guest, the Watershed, and Massunutten.

The public land out here is awesome. I love how open california is with their land. I was stationed in Lemoore and used to go up to Auberry all the time to go play around in my jeep and on my bike
