GWNF Long Run - Feedstone Mtn - Dictum Ridge Pics

Here are some pics from last weekend's tour of the GWNF in the vicinity of Harrisonburg. Long Run, Dictum Ridge, and Feedstone Mountain. It was a great weekend. I think we went 18 hours without seeing a soul.

Wow I'm impressed. I want to get to the point where I'm geared up for winter camping. You really hit the GWNF hard. Great pics. Couple of questions.

You have a chain saw? How do you carry it? I don't want gas in the cab.
How did you synch pics with GPS?

Really nice thanks for sharing, hope we get a chance to hit the trail together again.

Yes, I have a chain saw. Actually, I own two. Chainsaws are relatively inexpensive and they aren't too hard to transport. I have a plastic chain scabbard and keep it stable by jamming the blade between my foot locker and the whee lwheel. I'm still perfecting my winter loadplan. I think chainsaws are an an essential piece of winter wheeling gear. To stay legal, I paid $20 bucks and purchased an annual GWNF firewood collection permit which allows me cut downed trees. I carry my extra premix in a backpacking 1 liter aluminum fuel bottle. That's more than enough fuel for a weekend. No fumes either.

My Panasonic Lumix point and shoot camera has a GPS built-in. It auto tags the location. Great camera.

I'm planning a mega-3 day run for next weekend. There are miles and miles of GWNF forest road in the Reddish Knob area and south of it waiting to be explored. I'm really looking forward to it.

Four rigs from my club ran the same 28 December. Here is the thread on the trip:

I am not clear where Feedstone Mtn. is ... can you give me a better description of the trailhead? Thanks!

Feedstone Mountain is about 2.7 miles northwest on Long Run Road from the Clines Hacking-Long Run intersection. It's FR 72C. The trail is marginally maintained. I think the FS just keeps the blow downs clear and that's it. The trail descends and stops at a private property gate. There is a nice camp site on the ridge at the start of the trail and about 1/2 to 3/4 mile from the end. The FR72C intersection with Long Run is 38.587457,-79.058014 which you can plug into Google Maps. The Nat Geo TI map is what I use.
